My dear wife has determined that we need to take our first grader who will be seven years old this summer, to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle this August. I don't know if it is because she has been watching that damn pregnant giraffe 24/7 or because the Portland zoo has become meh.

It seems that other forums have determined that since the property is owned by the City of Seattle, the State preemption applies to CHL holders. Being the hottest month of the year, the chance of printing or accidental exposure is high, so my question is has anyone dealt with Woodland Park Zoo staff about carry issues lately???

Yes I know that they have a No Weapons sign and the ball fields are of the same status (city owned / private managed), however the stadiums have security with detectors.

concealed is concealed.. if you can pack it without printing.. do it.. its not a federal location. worst they can do is have you escorted from the premises... thats if they ever noticed.. you would be surprised what people dont see right in front of their face.

Concealed does indeed mean concealed , but ... Be prepared for any and all fallout.
Anything from being asked to leave , talking to law enforcement , the "bad" example of gun ownership* etc...

If you do want to carry , I'd suggest you practice now around the house with your summer outfit doing the actions and activities you might expect to encounter on your visit... Just to see what works and what doesn't.

*By bad gun ownership example , I am saying that , if you get caught , it might reflect badly on you and other gun owners.
Comments like : " What , gun owners can't read the sign? " or "Do the rules not apply to you?"
Maybe causing a fuss with the people who spotted you carrying and now they think that all gun owners act a certain way...

How we as gun owners act in our interactions will reflect on all gun owners in general.
We need to be extra careful in what we do. Because by the actions of one gun owner , we are all judged.
As a general rule , at least in my experience.

Again I am not saying not to carry your gun ... Just do so smartly and be prepared for any outcome.

Andy has some wise words here. That said, allow me to distort them for my own nefarious purposes....;)

I made the decision some years back to carry everywhere when I was away from home. By everywhere the only exception I would place were those places, such as getting on an airplane or going into a courthouse, where it is expressly forbidden by law. Everywhere else is a wide mix of "we don't like it" to some extent or another. Fact is, no matter where you carry, even in a wide open public space with no restrictions, you run the risk of triggering some fragile anti-gun lunatic who loses their sh!t at the sight of any gun - even one legally being carried. You run the risk of getting that negative attention if you print anywhere. Sure in a place where they have signs that say no weapons allowed you may get a bit more negative attention, and yes, asked to leave, but I always ask this question of myself - is the risk to me and my family gone because they posted a sign?

Fact is neither you, nor I, nor anyone else can ever predict when a threat may present itself. And a zoo is no exception to that. You could just as easily encounter a threat to your life there as any other public space. Is it likely? No, not anymore than any other public space. The real question in my mind is whether the risk of a little negative attention if I'm made a greater concern than finding myself in a situation where I needed to be armed, but I wasn't? In reality only you can answer that question for yourself. Know what could happen if you're spotted, be prepared to handle it gracefully and follow whatever direction they give you to leave. If you haven't broken the law, it's really nothing more than a slightly embarrassing inconvenience.

As for dressing for hot weather, I've been carrying in summer clothes on the hottest days and have never had a problem with printing. My secret weapon - the untucked shirt. It's amazing how little a gun prints in an IWB holster, in a pair of shorts with a simple long untucked t-shirt or polo style shirt. It's never happened in my years of carrying, even on 100 degree+ days. Just make sure the shirt you use hangs a little long so if you have to bend over or reach up for something, you don't expose the gun, and you should be fine. As noted above, practice a bit with your clothing beforehand and ask some folks you trust to see if you're printing. But remember, the average Joe on the street, when seeing a bump from the grip, for example, if they see it at all, won't make the connection to what it is. Most folks simply aren't that perceptive.

But going back to Andy's post - all of us should be prepared for negative feedback if we're spotted, no matter where we are. And if we are, we should be as gracious as possible so as to not give any negative perception of the gun community, at least beyond the blood-thirsty killers some already think we are o_O

An attorney with a hefty lawsuit might make them reconsider their decision. After all, activist homosexuals did it to a Gresham, Oregon Baker/Caterer. It's about time someone made life less-than-comfortable for those that infringe upon our constitutional rights.

Ruger LC9s IWB with a long t shirt. Never been spotted. If you are worried my guess is that you will be carrying a back pack that day for snacks and such for your son or daughter. Use your GHB for the day or one like it and put your pistol in it.

A small sling pack is great for things like that and if you purchase the tactical kind then a lot of them actually have a spot for a pistol. :)
