Sgt. Tim Meyer gave a brief news conference just before 3 p.m., in which he said the department's thoughts and prayers are with the deputies and their families.

Around 12:15 p.m. Monday, Meyer says King County deputies were dispatched to the Beaumont Apartments for a report of some suspicious circumstances, potentially a car prowl. The suspect was carrying some sort of case.

The suspect fired rounds at the two deputies, and both were hit. They are now in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. The two deputies, both males, are believed to have been wearing bulletproof vests. King County Sheriff's Office is currently not equipped with any dash or body cameras.

The deputies returned fire, and the suspect was shot and killed in the confrontation, police sources said.
