Wood requirements for pistol?

Go big or go home, how about Cocobolo, African Blackwood or Snakewood, those would be better choices than ebony.

Any wood can be used if it's stabilized with a resin such as cactus juice. I'd go for spalted Maple and buckeye burl!

Nothing shapes quite like walnut. Cherry's nice but a bit harder. Oak smells like a dirty diaper. Hickory is too open grained. I've never worked with ebony but it's a mighty elegant looking wood.

I'd do walnut for my first project it's just so smooth and silky and carved like a dream.

During my hiatus from firearms, I developed a strong hobby in woodworking. The idea of building a firearm is very appealing to me (would have to find a gunsmith to do the metalwork for me)...and what better than a set of dueling pistols?

How about a 1911 made from that ebony you have?

Make sure you check for a woods' toxicity, some will mess with skin and or lungs.
