This crap gets OLD, and fast...!!!

How on earth will they know if it was locked up or not...???

Over and over again... It's none of their business as to what and or where my firearms are in my house...

PERIOD...!!!

The Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller already ruled that local imposition of restrictive gun storage laws is unconstitutional. So basically this is Seattle passing what they already knew to be an unconstitutional law and daring the public and the courts to walk it back. That's not just unconstitutional, but unconscionable. The actual effect of the law will be that a lot of people will buy locks and leave them lying unlocked with the keys in them next to their firearms in their bedside gun safes so they can show the nice policeman how they unlocked it before going out to confront the bad guys when they need to. Stupid. Just stupid.

Most likely those same politicians own stock in the locks that are to be sold as well...!!!

Just saying...:D

In Australia the storage requirements are so draconian (unloaded gun locked up, ammo locked up separately, and the po-po can come into your house to verify) that the very act of successfully using a loaded gun to defend oneself in your home can be used as prima facie evidence that your gun and ammo must not have been stored correctly. If you can get to them and use them, you must have been storing them wrong.

Gun storage laws will almost always lead to 1) decreased ability to defend oneself and 2) inroads for a tyrannical state to have the ability to search and seize in our homes.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, Essentially the Seattle Gun tax was upheld on the basis of the city or (state) having the authority to tax whatever it wanted similar to the original NFA act. Outside of the taxing issue won't most city firearms restrictions fall under the purview of state preemption clause, and be thrown out?

Hence their simultaneous jihad against Preemption...

Yeah, aren't they actively working to remove preemption from the state constitution? Is that a ballot measure? Or is it a push through Olympia? I don't closely follow WA politics, so I'm not as up on this as what's going on in Oregon. If so, I hope they don't pull it off, it would be a very bad thing for all gun owners in WA if you were to allow little enclaves of leftist freedom-hating, anti-constitution activists to have an even easier time running roughshod over everyone's rights.

What a cluster WA, especially King Co./Seattle have become. Most of my family live in WA now and have been pushing for years for us to move up there. I don't know that that's ever going to happen. If I leave OR, it won't be for WA, that's for sure. Trading one leftist sh!thole for another isn't a net gain ;)

Back to the article, I do think he's right, but perhaps for the wrong reason. He says it's better to let the voters decide on the statewide measure and this may mess that measure up. Maybe it will. But a bigger concern should be the constant over-stepping and excessively far-reaching ultra-leftist/socialist crap they're pushing through. It's turning off voters, even among the Democrats, who see it as going way too far. They have limits too, and the extremists in their party have been given carte blanche the last 8-10 years or so (corresponding to BO's 2 terms in office) to push leftist agendas that don't really align well with the more moderate members of the Democrat party. We're seeing it around the country, and some Dems are fleeing their party. Others are simply disgusted with the direction of it. This November's election should be very interesting, and a good tell as to whether the hard left push by the Democrats for never-ending social justice reform, higher taxes and restriction of rights is going to carry them for a win in DC.

If I were a D strategist, I'd be asking all local bodies to stop passing anything this extreme until after November. They're really setting themselves up to fail by going all-in for the leftist/socialist agenda. They may end up being their own worst enemies.

King County Washington is just like Multnomah County Oregon, they basically control what goes on in the entire state, both are full of extreme mind bugged progressives...

Kind of odd how an esteemed journalist like that, left out the other affects of I-1639 like:
  • Creates a firearms tax
  • Creates a long gun registry
  • Creates a 10 day waiting period for rifles
  • All semi auto's magically become "assault weapons"
  • "Mandatory training"
  • Removes gun buyers medical privacy rights

Almost like he has an anti-gun agenda.................. can't be, he works for the Seattle :s0170:Times.

I brought this point up before and I get called insane or reckless. Seriously, laws like this are not enforcable without invasion of privacy.

Though I'm surprised you didn't get ganged up on. Last time I pretty much was. Almost ruined the forum for me.
