I'm looking for information on my short mag.
Serial # dates 1956 but I can't find a 300 wsm when trying to find it's value.when I bought it I was told it came out of the winchester custom shop.

I'm not sure the .300 WSM has been around that long. I think it was released to the public by Winchester around 2001. Maybe it was a wildcat round before that? I don't remember hearing anything about it when I was young. My uncle carried a .300 Win Mag back in the 60's, but I don't recall anyone having a .300 WSM back then. I have heard good things about the cartridge though.

As @Bobbygun says the .300 WSM is from 2001. The .300 Winchester Magnum was born in 1963. Those cartridges did not exist when your rifle was manufactured. For your rifle to have come from the custom shop it would of had to be returned to them to do the work,

What marking are on the barrel?

I'm trying to upload photos but it won't let me but there is a gold like marking on top of barrel where it meets the action I need to take off the scope

The G prefix on Mod 70s started in 1969. That serial number is from the mid-90s

What does the chambering stamping look like. Any other stampings on the barrel?

The dot you see on top may be an indexing witness mark placed by a gunsmith when rebarreling or cutting back a thread and rechambering. When used these are usually placed on the bottom of the barrel so they are not visable when the rifle is wearing its stock.

BTW, welcome to the site!

Thank u the interweb had me all twisted around. it makes sense to be that newer for the shape it's In especially since I pack it around lol. What would it be worth to sell? It's tied to memories that no longer need remembered so looking to get rid of it...I.E. old relationships and new beginnings.

Better pics of the whole would help determine value
