Wanna increase revenues? Simplify the tax code. Flat tax, 10% no deductions whether you make 20 grand or 20 mil. So simple a child could complete a 1040, and no SS-Einsatzgruppen needed.

Waffen-IRS Delenda Est!
Repeal income tax

Replace with flat sales tax collected at POS
No exceptions/exemptions - all new (first time sold) products and services
No deductions
No rebates
No subsidies
No minimums or maximums
All legal entities pay
---------------
The problem is, flat taxes (income or sales), without exceptions/exemptions/subsidies/rebate/etc. are politically impossible because everybody wants their exceptions/exemptions/subsidies/rebate/whatever and politicians are only too glad to give it to them.

The new enforcement includes expanded audits for incomes over $400k. That requires more agents, regardless of whether you or I think that's a good methodology.
But does not prevent expanded audits under $400k either. Since the vast majority of monies is collected via audits is from taxpayers making less than $200k this is where I would expect the focus. If you pulling gold out of one stream why would you look elsewhere?:

"...The Joint Committee on Taxation has reported that 78 to 90 percent of the taxpayer money raised via new audits and investigations as a result of the legislation would come from American households earning less than $200,000 a year. Meanwhile, just four to nine percent is expected to come from households earning more than $500,000 a year.

Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) offered an amendment that would ban any of the new IRS funds from being used to target Americans earning less than $400,000 annually. Crapo said the amendment ensured that President Joe Biden would not break his promise to not raise taxes on Americans earning less than $400,000 a year.

The amendment, though, was rejected by all Senate Democrats on a party-line vote. The passed legislation, instead, only suggests that Congress does not "intend" to raise taxes on households with annual incomes of less than $400,000. ..."

Interesting. I spent some time looking for that information and couldn't find it. Can you?

There is no tax as incredibly regressive as sales tax. Poor people already spend everything they make, and it would be better if everything they make was taxed?

Eazy Peazy Set a threshold for exemption (like poverty level x 2 or something) and anyone that wants a Get Out Of Taxes Free Card just applies to the IRS for an exemption card. All those out of work agents will have tons of time to make sure you qualify, and when you pop out the card at the local Stop-N-Rob everyone will know that you are really poor. On the other hand, if you have gone full Dale Gribble and don't want the IRS anywhere near you, just pay the tax and keep your mouth shut about what you earn.

So, no connection. Just a random occurance.
Do you really need me to enumerate occurrences of IRS/FBI/ATF overreach? Do you sincerely believe there won't be cases of overreach/civil rights violations from all of these new IRS enforcement agents?

Because the IRS investigates and arrests certain types of financial fraud. It's on the IRS website if you want to learn from a real source.

So send federal LAW ENFORCEMENT agents to arrest the offender. Maybe even have some arbiter to decide if an enforcement visit is really necessary. Again, the IRS does not need its own "enforcement" branch.

No free rides, maybe reduce to 5% for under 200%-FPL. "Gas, Grass or A$$--nobody rides for free."

Okay. I didn't say they did, just that it is a tiny division that investigates and arrests specific crimes.

Yeah! Defund law enforcement! (That's essentially what you're saying; that enforcing laws isn't worth the having cops.)

Why? Who cares what letters on on the jacket? Well, ok, obviously you care, but why? That sort of inter agency dependence would only increase cost and complicate logistics.
Exactly! I want something to slow down the deployment of the various SWAT teams these organizations have. Exactly how many violent tax cheaters are there? How many small business owners have shot it out with the IRS? How many middle or lower class moms and dads have taken IRS auditors hostage? Too many municipalities, state and federal agencies have the attitude we have these SWAT teams so we might as well use them. How often does stuff goes sideways when that happens. If the IRS is truly afraid of a tax evader then yes, they should have to ask for outside help and give good reason for sending armed agents out to Dottie's Diner or Grandpa Joe's house.

And besides, we'll at least save money by not having to pay for all the different sets of initials on the jackets.;)

The point of sales tax only systems is to get rid of the bureaucracy costs of reporting income. How do you get a government exemption when the government doesn't know what you make?

How many arrests have you seen by unarmed officers?

Now who's putting words in other people's mouths?

How is
How many arrests have you seen by unarmed officers?
Um... England seems to have made it work and guess what?? They can call in armed backup if things get hairy!
Again, I ask how many small business owners or middle class moms have shot it out with the IRS? When's the last time you heard of an IRS agent taking down a gang-banger? The IRS can call in help if things get violent when they're auditing Granny Jones.

I doubt many people have ever seen an IRS Criminal Investigator Special Agent. "IRS Agents" aren't armed.

Regressive, Progressive, Fair, Unfair.

Socialists love those words when it comes to taxes and "social" programs.

The proper purpose of taxes is NOT to make life more "fair" for those that are poor, or to punish those who are wealthy.

The proper and FAIR purpose of taxes is for each person to pay for the cost of the government services they incur, regardless of their finances.

If I am poor, should I pay less for the car I need to transport me to work? Should I pay less for a TV? Should I pay less for the bed I sleep in?

No? Why not? the cost is a higher proportion of my income than it is for the wealthy. Isn't it "fair" that I pay less?

Yes? Then who pays the rest? Someone else? Why? What obligation do they have to pay for my life expenses? How did they come by that obligation?

Socialists have pushed the lie that those with more money somehow owe some portion of that money to those with less money, regardless of merit.

Somehow, the fruits of my labors are owed to those who have less, whether they have less due to bad fortune/circumstances (illness, inability/disability, someone defrauded or stole from them, natural disaster), or because they maybe made bad decisions, or whatever reason - it is somehow my fault that they are in that situation? My obligation to labor on their behalf?

Obligation is debt/duty. Debt is incurred by some voluntary and consensual action of the debtor.

So where does this obligation of others come from?

The Socialists will tell you that, like ""original sin" it is part of being a "member of society", whether you consent to that obligation or not.

Obligation is not something you are born with. It is not passed down from father to son. It doesn't come from innocent acquisition of money or assets, whether the acquisition is a gift, inheritance or as the result of your labors.

Therefore, I reject the assertion that somehow I owe some part of the fruits of my labors (or that of my ancestors via inheritance - if they acquired their assets ethically), to those who have less than I do, or even if they need it more.

This does not mean that I am opposed to charity - but charity is voluntary, it cannot be charity if it is mandatory, that is debt, and debt is not something you enter into just by your very existence.

The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

FWIW - I do give to charity. I also spent 4 years of my life, sometimes risking that life, to provide for the safety of others, working in SAR in the USCG.

I do not consider the fees, fines and taxes that the various government entities in the USA inflict on me as charity, whether they go to pay for the valid costs of government, or whether they are plunder, taken from me and given to others, despite what Socialists say about how those funds are distributed, or my "obligations" to "society".

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it."
