This whole thing has made me re-evaluate the need for a better carry weapon. I'm about ready to go out and buy that commander sized 1911 in .45 ACP that I've been putting off buying for a few months now. In that regard, this kind of incident is counter-productive for the gun prohibitionists. I can easily imagine a similar incident at a local Fred Meyer, and if such a thing went down I wouldn't want to be "under armed".
I've gone back to carrying a Taurus 24/7 in .45 ACP recently. 12+1 and much smaller than a full size 1911.
A compact .22 is certainly more comfortable but less comforting than a .45.
