Putting the election aside, ammo prices have been going up for years just like everything else. Five years ago ammo was cheaper, but so were food and gas.

They have to go up.

You have all the domesday preppers buying and statshing ammo - for the what if
They are in competition with the Fed's and states who are buying for the What if scenario + to counter all the preppers and self appointed vigilanty groups. Not to mention the arming of Mexico drug forces and the belief that current administration is going to take bold steps against owning any ammo.

Until they each decide they have enough ammo to survive the century it will be a constant struggle.
Bet you see a "Special Tax" on ammunition like 223 and 308 to limit sales coming soon. Means we have to go buy more before they think about it.

But you now know what stocks to buy.

To confirm what sadiesassy has said I work at a mom and pop sporting goods store on weekends and the info we are getting is both a price increase and hard to get.

Our wholesalers are out of stock on 9, 40, 5.56 and 7.62x39 unless you want the expensive premium stuff and they are getting low on that as well.

We have been told that the DHS ordered 450 million rounds over a 5 year contract for 40 S&W and then the military did an order for 750 millions rounds of 5.56 tying up production. Then you add an election, the end of the world prepper shows and then to top it off 12/21/12 and the zombie apocalypse and the panic has begun. We even started this weekend to limit 1000 rds per person for 5.56 and 7.62x39 to slow the ammo scalpers down to a minimum.

Primers and brass are slowing down as well as they are going to fill the contracts.

So yep the panic has started and the closer we get to the election I feel the worse it will become.

Yes the prices have been going up over the last few years as we have been competing with Pakistan and China for lead and other metals driving the price up and then the value of the dollars has been going down so our buying power is not what it once was.
