I am curious as to why so many people are moving here.. before I lived here, Oregon and Washington basically were just places on the map you didn't know anything about aside from playing the Oregon trail in school as a kid of course ;)

How did y'all end up here? Me I was forced the first time, basically forced the second and third times as well.

But what about you? Why you here? How'd you end up here? And most importantly are you happy here?

Shootz! :s0160:

Interesting topic, but my answer will bore most everyone.

Born in a small town in Washington...left to serve, but it'll always be home.

Family moved here in the late 70's early 80's. Left for work but returned to finish my degree. This was before the massive CA immigration and Microsoft became so big. Happy here? Political environment is real toxic. You're always wondering and worried if you are doing something illegal before walking out the door.

Born here in Oregon. Grew up here. Live here. Lived in Rochester NY for a short while as a student. Worked in NC for 10 weeks as a student. Traveled through several states, still prefer the scenery of the Cascades and Central Oregon... probably will move with the small family; when we can. Both families are here for the most part, with a few in other States who are much older and doesnt keep in touch all that much.

Edit. We have been looking at moving one or two States away, or three, depending on jobs, cost of living, and ease of travel to family. Definitely avoiding the Coastal states, except maybe Alaska  lol

1) MDAC ruled by idiots, obviously a dumpster fire. Time to bail out.
2) DPRK going full-on Communist.
3) Rodney King Riots
4) Job offer from Boeing.
5) Moving again is not practical. Stuck here.

I was born in Spokane.
Moved to Seattle in '69.
Worked at Boeing.
Went back to school, got a degree in radiology.
Worked Seattle area hospitals.
Moved north of Seattle in the mid 90's because Seattle was beginning to suck.
Move to Centralia area in 2007 because Seattle really sucked.
Moved 2000 miles east 3 months ago because the entire state sucked.

The end..............:s0066:

I am curious as to why so many people are moving here..

Microsoft ( It came here because Gates was here) ---> Amazon (why not build where talent from Microsoft lives already) --> Google, Facebook, Tableau, etc, etc, etc, because you know, Microsoft and Amazon people moved here and settled, and don't want to move again, but would not mind a new higher paying job so there is a nice talent pool. ---> Oh, look, IT contractor jobs that pay well, and although the network is not as strong as the Bay Area, it's decent enough for a jump to a new role every 3 years with a decent pay bump --> Well, there is a whole infrastructure to support all of the above, restaurants, hospitals, etc, etc, etc.....

Ohh, btw, there are mountains and water and actually not that bad for a few months out of the year, while people make enough to pay for pills and a shrink through the other months, when it's fracking gray and miserable.

That pretty much defines most of the people I know that moved here. Here being west of the Cascades, but east of the Olympics.

Portland, I have no idea why anyone would want to move to Portland other than trying to relive some fantasy of a failed socialist city state.

Stuck is where I am but not allowing that for much longer. Outta here first chance I can go.

Oregon does have a couple months of good weather and a couple more of ok weather but majority is the gray gloom crap we all know to well.

I came from southern California.
But before I got to Washington.
I lived all over California.
Lancaster . Bakersfield.Santa Barbara.
Redding.
Then I went to Alaska on a fishing boat via Seattle.
Then when I came back I stayed in Tacoma.
Never went back to California.
Now I think I have to find a new state to retire in.
Or just buy a camper and a boat and live where I want .

We drove up from Los Angles in my Dads '59 Volvo to the '62 Worlds Fair in Seattle. I was 6. Up Hwy 99 and back down 101. In '64 my dad got a job at Tectronics in Beaverton. I've called Oregon home ever since. I've visited a bunch of other states in my travels and a few foreign countries curtisy of the USN. Oh sure the politics suck but honestly they don't intrude in my life too much if I don't let them. Am I happy here? You bet, enough to stand and fight.

Born in Oregon, 6th generation. We were here before the Invasion From the South. We'll be here when they ruin the place and leave (just like rats). Far enough from the cities to wait them out.

Born and raised.

I remember in the early 90s when the first wave of illegal migrants moved up from kalifornia. They couldn't stand the gloom and rain so they all moved back. Then in the early 2000s when it got too expensive down there, they all migrated again, only this time the aholes stayed.

I REALLY MISS the 20th century Oregon. Tom McCall knew very well what was up when he said visit, but don't stay.

Born in Germany.
Otherwise I have lived in the PNW all of my life. It has everything I need. Other places are great to travel to and stay for short periods.
I am afraid that is changing quickly. We are window shopping in 3 other states to make a move.
The taxes, the loss of liberty, and piss poor state leadership is driving our desire to leave. The infestation from the south is expediting it as well.

Born and raised in Idaho. Always loved it here. Joined the military and lived in California, Hawaii, and Seattle-area. Got out and moved back home, then got a wild hair and tried the Midwest and Arizona. The Midwest was attractive due to dirt cheap housing and Arizona was booming.

Could not stand the Midwest. Just awful. Bought a house for $16k and totally remodeled it and lost money when I sold it. Horrible heat and humidity in the summer, coldest weather I'd ever experienced in the winter, horrible hunting laws, horrible fishing, and smelly, brown rivers.

Arizona wasn't bad, but the town I lived in was a hot spot for California and East coast refugees. A lot of crime and rude people. I lived in a nice neighborhood and had my vehicles broke into and a murder a couple of blocks away. Plus, tons of rattlesnakes, tarantulas, killer bees, scorpions, and desert centipedes.

Moved back North a few years ago and bought a little old farmhouse in a charming little town on the wrong side of the Idaho/Washington border. I-594 passed 4 months after I bought the house. Uh oh. And it's been getting worse ever since.

Hoping to move back over the border into Idaho ASAP, but houses are ridiculous and being single and making $50k a year limits your options.

There were earlier waves than that. The early 1960's was noticeable, but most of them didn't try to bring along the craziness. I believe that the Tech sector is responsible for most of the "infection" in the Portland area and Western suburbs.
