I do not think you can just look at those getting a hand out, one must look also at those that work for the state government, they know the dems want a big government. they are voting job security!

Hi all! Great forum! My first question isnt about guns so please forgive me. I need help understanding us here on the West coast. Are we insane? :huh:Why after such a dismal economy the past few years, primarily due Democrats in power, does Washington Oregon California all have Democrat Governors and two US Senators each today? All six senators are radical women, yes Wyden and Merkley may as well wear dresses, along with Cantwell, Murray, Boxer and Feinstein. Is there something Portland, Seattle and San Fran voters know what the rest of their states dont? I live east of the cascades and its like I'm in a whole different state. Its like a wave torn through the US from the East coast all across America and ended at the Cascades and Sierra Nevada. On a positive note I did read a study as of late from a San Diego school and Harvard reflecting liberal mindness is basically a social disorder of clingy people that need help from bigger gubbermint and cannot function self reliantly(liberals). Maybe this is the key in changing our metropolitan socialized cesspools that dictate state policies from their concrete jungle. I honestly feel more like a Idahoan than a Oregonian.

unka-boo, thanks for the warm welcoming accusation:rolleyes:. I wouldnt think everyone on the coast uses drugs:s0131:

I see, inversely, so the rest of America is insane:s0114: for voting Democrats out and the GOP gaining 60 seats in congress. Ya, that settles it:nuts:. Dont get me wrong, I'm as cynical as most northwesterners, but it still doesnt answer why the rest of the country goes one way, while the far Left coast remains stuborn and loyal to one party.

Jim, I hope your right. Call me aweful, but I think some economical hurt is greatly deserved to those who remain so selfishly indulgent and materialistic like I see so apparent in cities like Portland, Seattle and San Fran, LA etc. Last month we took a venture over the cascades to the ocean and when we passed through Portland I can honestly say I never seen so many piggish folks. Figuratively and literally. Never seen so many anti-American and perverted bumperstickers on so many little foreign cars either:s0114:. Reminded me of when I was stationed in Germany while serving in the Army as the folks looked like idealistic plump sheeple, shopping, dining, protesting and thinking they are so smart with their "progressive" ideals:woot: . I dont know how some of you good folks can reside over there. I shouldnt complain too much though as Oregon has been pretty good on gun rights:) Its just that liberal gene scientists have found that we need to do something about and get these folks to be a tad bit more self reliant and not dependant like children in adult bodies.

For the record, I agree with you. :s0155:

The state of Oregon is F'd up by the residents of Portland and surrounding Kalifornia suburbs, along with Eugene and the surrounding pot plantations.

The fact of the matter is that alot (not necessarally forum members) of new Oregonians have migrated from states like California, Mass, Louisiana, etc.
They either move here because they messed up their own state or cant find a job or just want to live off the government. Oregon is slowly becoming Northern Cal. and a state park for same. I dont believe either party, just pick the least objectional and hope they didnt lie too much.

As for the new Govenor I hope he does better this time but I seriously doubt it. Alot of his sheep werent here for his first two go arounds but they will see nothing will change just the name of the donkey in charge.

Jim, don't make me correct you again. Your 48% is actually less than 2%.

Economy Statistics > Welfare Caseloads > Total recipients (per capita) (most recent) by state

# 7 Alaska: 2.4 per 100 people (15,927)

# 10 Washington: 2.238 per 100 people (140,721)

# 36 Oregon: 1.197 per 100 people (43,591)

Plenty of red states ahead of Oregon in the welfare game.

Sources:

I don't recall you ever being able to correct anyone:s0112::s0112: Bending your numbers to include all people rather than just who votes is a typical way to put your spin on it. Plus a government check doesn't just cover welfare, it goes to government workers and their families along with all who do business with government.

Quit drinking the koolaide before it catches up to you.:D

Jim, I wish I'd been born with your ability to imagine this stuff from whole cloth instead of doing any actual research.

STATE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYMENT DATA: MARCH 2009 - OREGON STATE GOVERNMENT - http://www2.census.gov/govs/apes/09stor.txt

Total 55,915 (fulltime) 24,859 (part-time)

Now add that to the people on welfare which was 43,591 and you get 124,365 people.

The population of Oregon is 3,825,657, and according to the election results over 1.3m people voted.

So worst case, even if all of your Oregon welfare cases and government employees vote every election as a solid Democratic block, it's less than 10%.

I don't disagree with you about the welfare state and those that are a drag on the nation but I'd take a hard look elsewhere than the Left Coast. Tennessee, West Virginia and Indiana have high welfare loads with low GDP. Idaho, Mississippi and Utah have less welfare but still contribute very little to the nations GDP per head. We'd be better off without those six I guess?

Yes, California has a ton of welfare but then they are also top ten per capita in GDP. In fact, California's economy is big enough to be a country in its own right. A bankrupt country with crazy gun laws, but a country nonetheless. :s0114:

Disagreeing with your politics is insane?
If you ask me (and you did, in a roundabout way), thinking someone is insane for voting democrat is insane. Nobody is going to make any progress until the vast majority begins to understand that the "other side" is not insane, they're the "other side" - and our neighbors.
Someone (I believe it was Einstein) said that doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result/outcome was the very definition of insanity.
I believe that was the OP's point.
Care to show us how what happened in Oregon's election Tuesday differs from his analogy?
Please stop allowing your emotional, self-identified Democrat ideology to take offense and examine his statement rationally.

The economy is not in the tank due to the Democrats. That's a tea party pipe dream.
The economy is in the tank due to the financial regulations the Republicans refused to enact before the implosion.
If you honestly believe that Democrats in Congress don't bear primary culpability in the financial collapse, you haven't paid attention in the last 10 years. When Bush's team TRIED to convince Congress that Fannie and Freddie needed to be reigned in they were ignored, and painted once again as trying to deprive the needy.

There aren't too many genuine heroes to come out of the banking disaster, but Armando Falcon is one of them. You have probably never heard of him, but his testimony Friday before the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, available on the commission's website, is must reading for anyone trying to figure out why U.S. taxpayers had to bail out companies to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

Falcon was the chief regulator attempting to bring order to the houses of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac during the first four years of this decade, and had he been listened to, a significant part of the housing crisis could have been mitigated. Instead his agency was denied serious regulatory power by Democrats in Congress including liberals such as Reps. Barney Frank and Maxine Waters, both of whom assumed he was undermining public support for more affordable housing.

He wasn't, and instead was attempting to call attention to the reckless bundling of risky mortgages in which the government-chartered agencies acted like the other too-big-to-fail behemoths that together almost wrecked the entire economy.<snip>

For years (8 exactly) President Bush tried to stop the insanity that was Fannie and Freddie. Insanity brought on when Bill Clinton and then Dem Majority leaders opened the door for F&F to accept sub-prime loans. At one point, Fannie's loan to asset ratio was near 300-1. A catastrophe in the making that socialistic Democrats created with "feel good" legislation.
It was these loans, and the bundling and selling of them as Mortgage Backed Securities that "tanked" the economy. Securities indeed. They were more akin to junk bonds.

Furthermore, if you think the current Democratic "grand plan" has any hope of fixing it, you're wrong again:
The Subprime Debacle: Act 2 - Thoughts From The Frontline - InvestorsInsight.com | Financial Intelligence, Advice & Research / Investment Strategies & Planning for Individual Investors.

Artificially funding banks, by 'pubs or dems can't save the average American's portfolio. It can only re-line the pockets of the bankers, and in turn enable them to continue to profit from their own greedy mistakes,...
On the backs of American taxpayers.
The economy is in the tank because the Democrats aren't much better than the Republicans when it comes to fixing problems.
That isn't the problem with Dems. Their problem is they have their priorities screwed up.
They continue to spend money (revenues) on socialist programs before the economy shows any signs of true recovery. These monies aren't even forecast-ed yet. Before you/we can fund their grand plans, the economy has to be fixed, or at least set on the right track before they run the deficit so high that all revenues do is pay interest on our foreign (Chinese) debt.
Whoever coined the phrase "jobless recovery" obviously doesn't understand the American economy, yet the admin used it almost daily to try to convince us things were getting better when in fact they got worse. Meanwhile the juggernaut that was the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda was busy building the framework to a house of cards that has no hope of allowing the US to ever dig out of the financial hole we're in.
And what's wrong with women? You don't think women should be in a position of power? Are their minds too feeble? The OP seems to be implying this, but it could be misinterpretation on my part - the OP's writing rambles and is not entirely clear.
Your statement strongly parallels the leftist media machine that, for the last two years, has persisted that objections to Obama's agenda are race based. That notion is ludicrous at best, and I believe it has been addressed this week. The politicians that tried to convince the public at health care reform and cap & trade town halls didn't listen to their constituents.
Pure and simple,... They paid the price.
He didn't slam them for their gender, he slammed them for their agenda. So stop with the specious arguments.
Do you work for Keith Olberman for chrissake? Rachel Maddow or Chris Matthews maybe?
Until you are willing to recognize this admin's failings, as well as Kitzhaber's own admission(s) of failed responsibilities AND shortcomings you will continue to vote as you do, and continue to dismiss the OP's legitimate objections using the same baseless, liberal slams the leftist media feeds you.

Those actions, as well as your apparent vote(s), as stated so eloquently by Mr. Einstein and the OP, are the very definition of insanity.

While you are doing your figures lol How many retired government workers? How many students brainwashed by public schools? (yes both groups are on the public dole) You like your facts and figures but like a good demo you leave out the whole picture. There are far too many people getting government money.

I got no faith in what you say because you have had the koolaide and you like it.

One point I will make is it is good for the nation that we still have democrat government but bad for Oregonians. If the repubs would have taken the senate then Obama would be able to blame what is about to happe on the repubs. Since the senate is still under the democrats the dems will get the blame for the 20% inflation about to hit. Add that 20% to what taxes your democrats are going to fug you with and your future is toast.

+1 The retired teachers make as much as they were actually working, well supposedly working. As for the impending inflation/devalueing, at least my investments in brass, copper and lead will be somewhat stable.

The fed is buying 600 billion in debt which will give us about 20% inflation. Wages can't keep up and employers will dump workers. Notice how this is done right after the election and how Obama is spending 200 million a day on his trip to India. Liberalism is a mental dissorder. 34 warships and 40 aircraft for the trip to Mumbia on your dime. Democrat corruption.

jj

My suggestion. Stop this party vs party fighting and look toward the real culprits: the international bankers and the non-federal Federal Reserve who control our currency and knowingly produce inflation and bubbles; multinational corporations and their lobbyists who write legislation that favor themselves (e.g., health care and banks); and the Supreme Court that rules that it is OK for banks and other big corporations (e.g., Monsanto) to buy politicians to write laws that favor themselves.

Until we solve these issues, I don't believe this country will ever regain the economic and producer status it had 30-40-50 years ago.

I dont think it will get any better as the Californicators continue to flood into the state bringing their progressive lifestyle to Oregon. They have pretty much taken over the Bend-Redmond area and yuppified Central Oregon. Most of them dont work as they live off the fruits of Cali which many have made a fortune on, burned the bridges for everyone else to cross and move up here as their money goes much further in the dumpy, depressing NorthWest. The lower class commifornians are doing a great job of making it in central oregon by demanding handouts, more social programs and selling mind alterring substances on the side. Its as though Oregon has become a sanctuary or political park of sort for those that want to escape something. Our State moto is fitting: "Dreamers" :s0155:

20% inflation? Now you have a direct line to the future and know how much inflation we are going to have? :s0114::s0131:

20% might a lowball figure in the next 5 years. The power lords have decided to monetize the debt with inflation. The thieves use fancy words like "quantitative easing" to fool saps like you.

Read the news, Lord Bernanke just created $600 billion out of thin air.

Seems like Obama could have talked to Mumbai on the telephone instead (or use Skype, which is even cheaper).

The good thing is that it has been obvious for years that this is the way things were going to go. There has been time to prepare for this scenario. The one's who paid attention will come out ahead, but those who spent their time watching soap operas and reality TV shows (instead of paying attention to what is important) will be decimated.
