I'm not surprised, really. It appears to be a symptom of the broader political landscape; we have presidential candidates all clambering to out do each other when it comes to the issue. I don't recall a time when they were so blatant about bans, confiscations, no grandfathering clauses for banned items, licensing/training requirements, etc. There is even one (Harris) talking of bans via executive order and about door-to-door confiscation. A bunch of bluster and BS? Some, most certainly, but the constant barrage is hard to ignore. Then there is a sitting president who probably said more pro-2A comments during the campaign than any other modern candidate from a major party. But has not only not delivered on any of those promises, has taken anti-RKBA steps, and is stating support for even more.
I know where I stand on this one and every other issue: if it expands individual liberty, I support it, and only in the rarest cases do not. If it expands the size, scope, and power of the government, I'm almost certainly opposed to it. We were warned of this a very long time ago: "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.", Thomas Jefferson, May 27, 1788
