Has anyone purchased multiple items over the last month using a chl and ssn for the background check received varying results such as one instant and another not instant? I've provided my chl and ssn and I'm 0/3 on instants. Have two more to complete before dday and hoping for a different outcome.
I received two instant approvals in the same day. It made me feel a little better in that the instant approvals aren't completely random.

I appreciate those that posted with out voting as I assume they haven't tried to purchase anything in the 114 panic. My intent was statistics based on the 114 background check backlog which I failed to specify in my initial post.

Unique last name. SSN. CHL. Multiple firearms purchased yearly. Have had LE creds and security clearances in the past (not sure if that helps at all).

I've always got an instant.

My bet is that NO-One that did not provide a social security number got an instant approval
How much would you like to bet and when will you send me the check? I bought nearly a dozen firearms in November, provided no SSN on any of my 4473s and got instant on every single one

Oregon Driver's Learners Permit, SSN, No Gun Purchases past 12+ months (or ever). NO CHL

Went into the store, put it on hold, came back the next day with cash, took about 20-30 minutes for the paperwork, and waited for another 15-20 for the background check to go through and got to walk out with it.

Edit: I have a unique First and Last name as well.

I've pretty much always gotten instant approvals… probably the worst that's happened in the past year is being #20-ish a couple months ago. But I've had several instant approvals since then. I have a CHL and a very uncommon name. However my last purchase was probably around three weeks ago because it seems like nothing is guaranteed anymore and I didn't wanna be stuck in limbo.

I have had several IA go both with and without SSN. I did use my SS# this week to buy a rifle. I did not want to get thrown into the 30,000 plus waiters for some silly reason. I pray for cooler heads to prevail on this issue.

CHL, never a SSN, and I've never been delayed.

My boy who is an IT person for a huge corporation says his name and my name are unique, and there are no other people in the world with the same name.
Same here. There are only four people who have our last name.

Planning to buy a pistol soon. I'll let you all know if I get put at the back of the line.

EDIT:

Instant approval on the pistol today.

Ah the good old instant approvals, I won't lie I have no clue about the exact criteria that causes them but here's my experience:

Personally I've always gotten them, even before receiving an OR CHL. It could be because of one or more of the following - very uncommon last name, I always include my SSN, I've had background checks performed on me for work before, and also have a very clean record. Not 100% sure what causes it but it's nice to have.

When submitting BGCs for clients I've seen them all over the place with no rhyme or reason. Two things I suspect might be a factor are the type of ID used and the firearm(s) itself.

Why ID type might matter:
One of our long time regulars is an officer with Beaverton PD and is also in the Army National Guard. Since he has his work address on his driver's license we've always used his ODFW ID as a second form of identification for his address on the FICS check. He always went into the queue.
One day a thought occurred to me - why not try using his Military ID in combination with his ODFW? Instant approval. It makes no sense. It's the same name, SSN, address, etc. as every time before the only thing that changed is using his MIL ID instead of his OR DL.
Since then every time I've submitted a background check for him using his MIL ID/ODFW he's gotten the instant with one exception, which is where the firearm itself comes in.

Why the firearm might matter:
We run stolen checks on all firearms that come into the shop unless they're new from a manufacturer or distributor. Although most stolen gun checks get instantly approved some go into the queue to get reviewed - most likely because a similar model, serial number #, etc. may be reported as stolen in the system so someone at OSP needs to review it.
I have noticed that firearms with either no model or no serial # will almost always go into the queue to get reviewed.
When submitting a customer's background check we are also required to put in the firearm information so the FICS unit can run a stolen check on it as well. In the case of our BPD client I mentioned above the only time his MIL ID/ODFW combo went into the queue was when he bought an older used shotgun with no SN#.
Also worth noting is that if you're putting more than one firearm onto the same 4473, well your odds of having your BGC go into the queue regardless of CHL/Instant goes up with each firearm being added.

I have it on good authority (multiple sources) that only 4% of gun buyers are walking out of the FFL/gun stores with the gun purchased. In America, that sucks. Sounds more like Canada or any Socialist country. Geez.

As a FFL holder what I usually see is younger people (under 25) unique names, people who haven't had a lot of BGC's before. Other than that when I've asked I wasn't given a good explanation other than the things I mentioned. I own a FFL, have my CHL and I'm definitely not instant.

I would have liked to have seen a line in that survey that indicated whether or not you provided your (optional) social security number.
My bet is that NO-One that did not provide a social security number got an instant approval, whereas i would bet that all that did get an instant approval provided the social security number....perhaps i am wrong...but i base that on that the SS# is the single item that allows the fastest check on someone.
I did provide my SSAN, CCL and this was a rare time I did not get instant approval.

CHL holder/provided SSN/common first name/not so common last name: Every purchase in Oregon has been near instant for me (15-20 minute wait at most).

Went into Money Market Pawn on 11-30 to pick up my AUG, went into queue and am at 7,702 as of Friday.

I am just curious who is getting instant approvals, not that it matters a whole lot any more. My theory is that it is related to how long ago they last ran a background check on you.

Please feel free to put in your post if you supplied a SSN and whether or not you have a common name or a name that is pretty unique.

Me,
Instant approval with:
CHL.
1 gun purchase in last 12 months before my latest instant approval.
Supplied SSN.
Quite unique name.
I always get instant even during the Covid crazy buying of guns and now the 114 apocalypse too. I have worked for DOC many moons ago, since then then just down some LE stuff and now security DPSST. I also have my CHL. So I am not sure what part of all that gets me there but hey I'll take it!

I guess I don't get name uniqueness being the reason for instant approvals. Computers certainly can cross reference DOB and DL #s in a fraction of a second. I don't think a human is pulling up every Dave Johnson in the system and then comparing DOBs one by one for the next 7+ days.

Quite unique name.
I'm that guy. I can't help it. I've talked with friends, family, clergy, and professionals. It's no use, I've come to accept it. I gotta be me.

Unique takes no modifier. By definition, unique means "being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else."

So unique can't be quite unique. It's just unique.

Sorry Mike, I had no choice. Really. I understand if we can't be friends anymore.

Also, I bought 2 Glocks a couple of weeks ago when the line was 20,000 plus, instant approval. CHL, no SSN.
