Heading to Vegas in a couple weeks. Gonna stop in Reno on the way and stay the night. I've never been to Reno and don't really know the area at all. Any hotel recommendations or something to check out. It'll be me and the lady so maybe couples things. Will probably grab a drink and gamble a little bit. A nice restaurant would be nice. Since the kids and the covid we haven't really been anywhere together nice so I'm sure she would enjoy that.

Depending on budget, I'd stay at the Atlantis or the Peppermill. If you spend a little more you can get a nice suite. The steakhouse at the peppermill is the best in town and about as luxurious as the city can offer.

If your taking 89 down, Burney Falls is a pretty cool place to stop. The drive past Susanville is incredibly boring.

Outside of the casinos, there really is not much to in Reno. A trip to Scheels is always unique, especially since it's their only store on the west coast. Maybe hang out by the river down town, unless it's bum infested. Wild Waters water park can be fun for those from the PNW considering there isn't many water parks up here. The National Bowling center is pretty cool. Take a picture under the Arch maybe? Maybe see if a pub crawl is taking place, those are always fun.

See if any events are taking place, the events were the best part about Reno. Hot August Nights, Balloon Races, Street Vibrations, Italian Festival, Rib Cook Off, Blues and Brews, The Rodeo, River Fest, Air Races. Always events taking place, it's how Reno gets people to actually come to Reno. They are pretty fun, but mostly just "drinking events" in my opinion.

Surprisingly, a good amount of celebrities and musicians tour through Reno, might be worth looking into who might also be in town for a show.

Farmers Market in Sparks is basically a drinking event, but they have live music and decent food. Idelwild park does concerts during the summer months, and food truck events.

Food. That's my favorite part about returning to Reno. Eating things that simply do not exist up here. Sushi Pier 1 or 2 all you can eat. Jimboys Tacos. Capriotis. In and Out. Squeeze In. Port of Subs. The Nugget has good restaurants, just don't stay there. They have been gentryfying downtown lately so there are many new hipster type places down there that have popped up since we have been gone. Some might be worth checking out.

Alcohol. If you drink, go to Costco, buy a bunch, bring it back. Alcohol is simply less expensive in that state. Period.

Elevation. Yes, not something one thinks about, but here in OR we are at something like 165 feet. Reno is 4500 feet. Bring dremamine just in case. Last time we went and stayed for a week we had mild elevation sickness.

Have fun!

I am playing in a softball tournament in Reno next week and got a room at the Peppermill. I usually stay at the Western Village in
Sparks but it was all booked up.
Thanks:
James

The Atlantis is always nice. Peppermill is good too. Or you can just keep driving and go a little bit South of Carson City and hit up the Carson Valley Inn. These are all smokey-delicious-oldschool-Casinos, if you're looking for a regular place than any Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express would work.
