Where can I find Grouse ?

I used to see a lot in the hills around Marcola.

Logging roads is right on... a tip tho youul have your best luck right after a good wind storm... shakes seeds n feed out of the trees and brush... Mornings seem to be the best but I get them most of the day

Ruffed Grouse prefer birch and aspen buds this time of year. That is why washes can be productive. The reason they are on the logging roads is for the gravel and alder. Up here it was not a good year for the grouse, too wet too late into the summer. Turkeys had the same problem. Too wet.

I went this morning and saw nothing, I had seen grouse on this road a few months back. I did manage to find some very large chanterelles though. Most of them were as big as my hand or bigger, but about half of them were too soggy to pick.

Don't forget the feral cats - those guys really hammer all native birds. Disclaimer: not an advocate of shooting anyone's pet if one can avoid it, but feral cats wreak havoc on the environment.

In most of the towns in my area the coyotes have been taking care of the feral cats,and some small dogs.My father in-law was over at the driving range and watched a coyote go trucking by with a big fat cat in his mouth.Cat eats bird,dog eats cat,I shoot dog.Later I shoot bird and family eats it.

Trust me, if I'm a mile back in and run across a cat, it's considered feral.
