One reason there might be a shortage of P99s in the U.S. is that the German state government of Northrhine-Westphalia will start using the Walther P99 DOA as their police service pistol-after selling their Sig 225/P6s to U.S. gun dealers:

    FWIW,

I own a S&W 99, which is the American version of the Walther. When shopping for a 9mm, I shot and handled a lot of guns, and nothing came close to comfort, ease and accuracy of the Walther. I found the S&W for $450, and according to S&W and Walther, there is virtually no difference.

It's now discontinued by S&W, but I usually see at least one at the gun shows. I've put at least 2000 rounds through it, and it just keeps getting better (or is my practice finally paying off?)

+1 on the Walthers! I haven't found a gun as comfortable to handle as the P99. It melts in your hand! If I ever get enough money coming in I might just get one!

    I have a Walther P99 .40cal w/ threaded barrel.

There are two Walther P99's at DJ's Loan & Sport in Bothell. One is a cool Tan color.

Mine is a P99 QA. Has anyone shot both a QA and an AS?
