Ideal is a long ways away from "good enough" and the savage 110 is plenty good enough for me not to stress about getting all the way to ideal.

Though if I had to come up with something, I'd say a matte stainless gun with left side bolt handle, right side feed/eject at 6lbs or less including scope in a cartridge roughly equivalent to .270 Winchester.

Left Handed Browning X-Bolt Hunter in 300 Win Mag.
Replying to myself this is the rifle I coveted for a long time but whether by price or circumstance was always just out of reach for me. Finally a couple years ago the sun, moon and stars all lined up and I got my Browning. If it came down to grab and go this is the one to feed and protect me.

I have taken :
Grouse...
Coyote...
Antelope...
Deer...
Elk ...
And Bear with this rifle.
I have had it for over 20 years....and I know it and its loading very well.

For small game I like to use my circa 1946 Savage Model 19-33 NRA Match Rifle.
