223 Remington with 69-80 grain bullets is very fun out to 1000 yards and a wee bit further.
243 Winchester is an excellent choice out to 1000 easily with 95-107 grain bullets.
6.5 Creedmoor makes 1000 yards look easy.
308 Winchester adds a degree of chance/difficulty beyond about 800 yards or so.

I guess I have too many favorites!

Heck, I'd try it with a 22lr for giggles!

7mm Remington Magnum. Long, skinny bullets with a bunch O'powder to push em. Granted, I've only pushed out to 700 or so and it's also the only caliber I have bigger than .223 that can do it, so..... Heck maybe my 30-30 if launched like a mortar? Just sitting waiting for someone to claim they have a .50 as happens from time to time

6.5 Swede, from a C.G. 63/80, doing it with class for 122+ years!
.308/ 7.62X51 from a M-21 clone, an M-24 clone or a FAL USMC Trials rifle clone, or the PSG-1 clone ( because we cant have the real things, our gov said so)
.30/06 from the Garand, cause it's too cool for school and gives fits to all the kiddies and their new fancy fangled calibers!
.300 Win Mag from a M-40X or M-70 or the TRG -42
.338 L.M. from the A.I. to more then double the grand!
.50 BMG from the COBB Systems rifle, cause .50 'Murica!
:D :D:D
