There are a bunch of different 9mm cartridges, and even more than one 9x18, so be sure to get 9x18 Makarov. And be prepared to pay a bit. The cheapest I've seen lately is around 50 cents per round, and I'd consider that a good price in today's market.

I have 2 of those pistols and I convert 9mm luger brass for them. I cast my own bullets and powder coat them. It is hard to get commercial ammo for them and when you can find them they are not cheap.

Yup, 9x18mm Makarov (pronounced Ma-KAR-ov). You can shorten 9x19 Luger/Parabellum 1mm and expand (the 9x18 is .366", the 9x19 is .356") but be careful you don't try to run your 9x18 your 9x19! I like scrubbing the 9x19 and/or punching "18" over the "Luger", AND color-coding them with a magic marker. You can easily home "anodize" your brass different colors too. Trust me, going to a match and pulling out the wrong ammo is not that funny. In real life it can be fatal.

I've had this pistol before. Nice little Walther PP knock off. Used to be able to get them through the old Shotgun News for $119 or so about 20 years ago. Still see them in the pawn shops occasionally. They also came in .32 ACP which I have seen, and .380 which I have not.

I have fired a few Russian and East German Makarovs, and had one that I sold to a buddy years ago. None of the ones I handled were great shooters IMO, but they worked as designed and served their respective countries well enough. This website has a lot of useful information on Maks of all kinds.

The Hungarians started out copying Walther pistols back in the 40s, and the FEG PA-63 was a solid pistol. I assume you have the military version, which has an aluminum frame and a black slide. You can download a pdf of the owner's manual here.

As for ammo - I remember Buffalo Bore used to make a 95gr HP round that was great, and of course there's S&B, Fiocchi, and (I think) Underwood. You just have to hunt around to find it. Have fun with your gun!
