I know of at least a half dozen people who thinks firearms are as evil as the devil.i asked if they had anything in their home to defend their family's and I got pretty much the same answer. (It will never happen to us). So I say if someone broke into their house and tried to rob, or something worse they would just let it happen ? Again, it will never happen to us. I tell them well I hope it never happens to you to. Why would anybody let something bad happen to a wife, father, exc just because they hate guns ?

I LONG ago gave up with people like that. If they are adamant that crime is never going to happen to them? I just shrug and say the bad people have to eat too. It's a waste of time to try to win them over if they are that far gone.

Yea I don't try to talk them into anything, just say enough to maybe make them think
But they won't think, because they're convinced that noting bad like that will ever happen to them. People who think like that are not realists and don't see society for the evil it truly is. Perhaps they'll be fortunate to skate through life without ever having a brush with crime. Perhaps they won't.

As an adolescent, we had our home broken into twice, we were away both times, but it
Opened my eyes to the true evil society has to offer. This I'm prepared to take care of me and mine. Cross my threshold uninvited and you'll most likely get yer ticket punched to meet yer maker...

And I make no apologies...

And there it is.

The reason is simple: cognitive dissonance

"It'll never happen to me" until it does.

Can't reason with them - its like trying to convince an avowed socialist that capitalism is good.

I've had my home broken into twice. I've had people break into my vehicle three times. I didn't really think it would happen to me either, until it did, but I wasn't a head in the sand good at that time either. I grew up out in the country near what was at that point a dive bar, and a few migrant camps. Had more than one drunk & bloody dude stumble onto our place asking for help, or just pass out and require a 9-1-1 call.

They have to come to Jesus on their own, be it thru thoughtful evaluation of the world around them, or someone does something bad enough that it shakes them to their core. Some folks never learn.

I didn't think I'd ever have to draw on anyone no less someone I knew, but I ended up having to and if the Lord didn't give me the sense to put on my pistol before heading out the door a few years ago then I might not be here today.

People will cling to their beliefs until personal experience dictates otherwise.
Sadly, too many of them think their beliefs should be embraced by society, and set about doing it by force of law.
I'm glad for all this looting, burning and rioting. Some have smelled the coffee.

What a bubble some folks live in!

This is the year of our lord 2020, and we are not animals in some 3rd world country, we have police and a military to insure our safety, no one should need a gun, NO ONE! ;)

Yup, and Sh!t be popping off nightly now for the last 60+ days, and our civic leaders have abandoned us, forcing us to make some very difficult choices, and if the past is any indication of the future, we're in for MUCH WORSE come November 8th, because no matter who wins the big ticket, America will burn and the blood will run! A little revolution now and then is a good thing, but holy crap, are we in for a biggun! Tighten up your boots boys and girls, make sure all your mags are loaded, rifles clean, and powder dry!

I don't just keep guns near and plentiful but almost every door has a baseball bat behind it (been that way since I moved out at 17) and I have more knives then guns (also distributed around the house in convenient places).

Probably won't need them but I'm not ever going to be unprepared if I do.

Kids BF didn't close the front door all the way a few weeks ago. Wind blew it open and I had my G17 in hand before anyone could determine it was the wind.

He has been around for a few years and we get along well but he double checks the door is completely closed and locked now.

Pre Chinese virus I always answered the door with my left hand and pistol in my right out of sight.

One of the few benefits of the plague is I don't get solicitors anymore....

Odds of your house burning down = 1 in 3000

Odds of your house being robbed = 1 in 36

Ask your friends why they spend their hard earned money on smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and home owners insurance but aren't prepared for a robbery...or worse?

Also tell them that, "NOBODY needs a fire extinguisher! Thats what the fire department is for!" :D

A lot of people think that if they are ever on the receiving end of violent criminal activity they'll be able to reason with the perp and talk him/her out of it.

I wonder how many people, armed and unarmed, have tried to talk a criminal out of a criminal act. Probably almost all, if there was time.
I wonder what the rate of success is and how it breaks down along armed vs unarmed responses.
We already know that defensive use of firearms occurs over 1,000,000 times a year and that in most cases no shots are fired... I count that as "talking them out of it".

1) "I know of at least a half dozen people who thinks firearms are as evil as the devil.i asked if they had anything in their home to defend their family's and I got pretty much the same answer. (It will never happen to us)"
If they want to put in for the Darwin Award Drawing it's their business.

2) "Can't reason with them - its like trying to convince an avowed socialist that capitalism is good."
Anybody who believes in socialism as a viable economic system has no room to criticize those of religious faith for believing in something that can't be proven. Socialism is a proven failure.

3) "The reason is simple: cognitive dissonance"
The Left is good at that.

4) "I wonder how many people, armed and unarmed, have tried to talk a criminal out of a criminal act."
It's a lot easier to do with a piece in your hand than just your faith in the innate goodness of people.
Begging just inflames their lust for power.

5) "Also tell them that, "NOBODY needs a fire extinguisher! Thats what the fire department is for!" :D
A fire extinguisher also works for repelling boarders. I saw a great video (since removed from F'book) of a beleaguered motorist blasting an obstreperous cretin with a cloud of powdered bicarbonate of soda at a gas station. Seemed to work pretty well. :D
