If he has the right setup, he should be able to draw that right quick!
I carry a similar size wheel gun, I carry it cross draw with the trigger right above my belt buckle, I'm just as fast as any with that setup, size means nothing!

Seriously though....a good fitting and properly placed holster will work wonders with your draw.

These days IF I am carrying a sidearm while hunting it's my S&W 60-15 in 357.

I have always used a thick leather belt, usually made by a sling company. They work well for my all steel 1911's and this 357 weighs a lot less. I hardly know it's there.

It's the one time of the year I wear suspenders and a gun belt. It helps me carry my larger pistols and revolvers. Learned this from a good friend.

It's no joke, the Sam Brownie belt/holster came from this idea, first in carrying a Sword/Saber, and later into carrying heavy sidearms! I modified this idea to use a bandoleer as the shoulder part that holds up the belt, best of all worlds!

Word to the wise...if you're gonna wear a Sam Browne belt, DON'T FORGET THE BELT CLIPS...otherwise, it becomes the Sam Browne bra, pretty quick.
