38 special +p on barrel 2" barrel, barrel has two ported slots in the top beside blade sight, serial number CMU 65## on butt. Cannot find what model it is in any catalog the ported barrel is what throws me does'nt have exposed hammer thanks

Swing open the cylinder and there on the frame should be stamped the model number such as Mod 640

742-2 I'm curious about the port job is that specially done by Smith and Wesson or done by another company before being sold and while I'm on the subject who would I see about maybe possibly getting a Ruger LCRX ported does anyone do that

Do you mean 642? I've never heard of a 742.

The porting may have been done by S&W Performance Center or a custom supplier like Lew Horton.
