gonna vacuum seal some goods for a rainy day. I began to wonder what sorts of items I could pick up here and there and store long term that would be viable as a trading resources in a shtf type situation. (but also that I could use myself down the road)

I was thinking cigarettes, .22 ammo, coffee, cash and personal hygiene products...

what do you guys think? what would you add?

Personal hygiene items would be good, as would " luxury " items ( coffee, smokes, TP ). I don't think I'd bother with cash though....realistically, around here if were so deep in a SHTF that we're trading ammo for TP, you might as well use the cash for TP....

Fire starting devices ( lighters, matches, flint/steel ) would be good trading material also....

    I did enjoy that movie:thumbup:

Night Of The Comet is on the telly tonight, now theres a classic:eatpop:

Depending on the SHTF scenario, any book might be barter material. I would think engine manuals, first aid books, gardening books, or any type of educational/survival books would come in handy to a lot of people. Now that I think of it, I need to get me a few of those for myself.

Useful books, such as print outs of Kurt Saxon's Poor Man's James Bond, Jolly Roger cookbook. First aid stuff, addictive substances: tobacco, coffee, pain pills, alcohol, etc. Also portable rations, clif bars, jerky, MREs etc.
I don't ever see myself trading ammo for tp, unless I'm getting ammo for tp. With the amount of magazines that aren't much better than toilet paper currently in circulation right now I can wipe with Cosmo until the end of time.

Above all great ideas but I would add: hand tools, basic shelter supplies, candy, boots, leather gloves, personal grooming supplies (tweezers, nail clippers, etc), respiratory protection, duct tape, and zip ties.

Why not think of the things you're going to be trading for and stock up on those instead?
