Greetings,

I hope this is the correct forum thread for this post. If not, could a MOD help me move it to the correct forum.

I have a basic knowledge of suppressors and the purchasing and registration process. But I am a suppressor newbie and do not currently own one. However, I am considering purchasing one for my 22LR firearms.

So, MY QUESTION IS: Does anyone know about how long it is CURRENTLY taking the ATF to review and approve a Form 4 purchasing a suppressor for a GUN TRUST (NOT an individual)?

I know that Form 4's for INDIVIDUALS are being approved in just a matter of days. But my understanding is that the ATF is still working on streamlining the process for Gun Trusts.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers.

Any answer you get here understand that 'they are essentially written in 'pencil''. 30K people on this forum and no one yet understands how the ATF works. This is only my experience. You will have to have an eforms account & PIN set up through the ATF. Save that it doesn't change

Lived in Oregon and bought several suppressors over the years, and have since moved to Texas. I have used a trust every time. Trusts take longer to get through the process. My last one took 116 days when individuals were taking 4- 30 days. It is much better than it used to be. I have used Capitol Armory for almost all of them. Once they have all of your info and trust documents on file they can do all the paperwork for you. Simple and good prices. (Not a fan of Silencer Shop, but that's just me).

Buy it, do all the paperwork, get it certified and then wait. Does no good to get antsy or be in a hurry. You are now on government time. The process is the FBI does the background check first and then they send it to the ATF and eventually you will get an email of your approval (if you are deemed worthy!).

If you get it figured out let us all know. Good luck

Thanks @Lazyfaire, info was helpful.

Anyone else have info to share? Any info would be appreciated.

Thx.

It will take as long as it takes.

That is the most accurate, most honest, answer you will get on the subject.

I am currently 49 days on an e-file Form 4. Same shop had one approved in 24 hours the week before I submitted mine.

5d ago it was 5d mean; 2d ago it was 13d mean; yesterday it was 26d mean; I think people jumped on early Xmas self gifts, as I did, 5d ago. Hopefully I got in the ATF cue in time.

Chances are that if you use a One-Shot Trust it will come out faster. If you use a trust set up by you for all of your cans that it will not. At least that is my experience. Have never figured out that if they have Approved 15 stamps to the same trust that new ones should fly through the process, but they don't! But then again it is the ATF/FBI doing the backgrounds. If it comes early I will be pleasantly surprised.

My eform 4 was sent in March 7th, 2024. Tonight I just digitally signed my 4437. So now it's another 7-15 business days before I will actually have them in my hands. I wait for the standard 7 days of the CLEO notification and then Silencer central will send them to their affiliate in Roseburg and then they will be sent to my PO Box. Seems like it's been years since I paid for them. Maybe next time I won't do a trust. For a total of 189 working days. If you include weekends and holidays it's been 274 days. I have 2 coming. One is the banish 30 and the other is the banish 22. Can't wait to get them to the range and have some fun.

Purchased a can Monday night. Did paperwork and Single Shot trust on Tuesday December 17th.

ATF received application on December 17th at 2:34 PST
ATF approval email received December 20th at 11:36 PST

So less than 3 ATF business days.

Bought the can on January 7th, E4 form trust certified on Friday the 17th at 2:30pm, Monday the 20th was a holiday, received approval today the 21st at lunch time. About 1 business day actual wait time.

Not a Form 4 trust, but my Form 4 eFile individual was 96 days starting in early September 2024.

That brings me back to my original answer..........it will take as long as it takes.
