I haven't started a survival thread yet so I was reading the topics and trying to figure a disaster topic to talk about surviving. I hesitate because the scenario might look political in the start but I guarantee its a big what if on surviving a possible social unrest. Staff, I don't want to get in trouble here so read what I have posted and tell me if I can go on.o_O

It's a possible event but the description of how it comes about may offend readers. Its' different than what I have read before on any occasion but got the idea tonight reading the news reports.

Ok I will risk it and hope I don' get a time out and thead pulled as a waste of time. The easiest way to start the thread was a credible news source reporting a possible coup taking over. The thread starts with this question,

What happens when you wake up tomorrow and the Republic is gone?

Of course you can figure what our world will be like but what survival preps you have taken will get you through losing your old government with its constitution and being told martial law is now in effect?

Now that should be fun for you to think about :D

That's kind of why we are all quite well armed I would think. Well, that's the short answer.

You can see the quandary waking up and not knowing who is in charge and with martial law in place until they tell you who is in charge its' a whole different scenario than a disaster or nuke.

So the Republic is gone you say. Who is in charge? The Military has been disbanded? What are the details? The Republic can't be done away with over night unless you are talking some sort of Military takeover.

Your scenario needs some fleshing out.

:D This is the evil in me :D When you wake up there is no Internet for news and radio and TV are broadcasting that martial law is declared and stay in your homes. You have no idea what's happened or who has taken over. What happens next? What will the neighbors do? What will you do when you know nothing? Remember you are ordered to stay in your homes.

I'd be talking with my neighboring farmers, with family and friends, getting organized. We rely on the Constitution, and anyone - foreign or domestic - who suspends it will be in for a fight.

I'm too old and banged up to run with the militia crowd, but I'm hoping there are a good number of you guys around. Your fighting skills would be needed.

But fighting would only be one aspect of surviving the downfall - or attempted overthrow - of the republic. I'm guessing everything would be tops-turvy, so providing food and water would become a central focus.

Most of the discussions I see about surviving disasters, wars, or a zombie-apocalypse seem to be more focused on the fighting that would be happening. But we'd need to be organized with trusted neighbors and allies who can grow and preserve food; who have access to clean water, etc.

But what has you thinking about the possibility of martial law being declared?

No internet might be a good thing after all.

Good answer, myself I would begin with the basics and inventory food and water while thinking all services may be cut off. I may cook up what would spoil first and start organizing for an evacuation.

What got me thinking about this is news reports that are political in nature that I won't post here or they will pull the thread. What happened today is scary to me but then I am synical.

This should be a really hard test of your survival skills and in my opinion in a real survival test you won't have lots of information. Emp there won't be any comunication so I hope this is a thoughtful challenge for you guys and I will see you tomorrow. ....maybe:D

If Martial law is declared then I am staying my home. I don't understand why you would be doing something else? If I see squads of people going door to door confiscating arms and taking their food that changes things. I suppose if you live outside the city you can risk being out and getting detained or shot. But we currently live inside city limits so I would follow the order of Martial Law.

If it is an EMP and no power whatsoever. Then we most likely are going to stay inside the home for quite some time while the chaos ensues outside.

What will my neighbors do? I would assume most of them would freak out. By and large I think most are not prepared to survive for the next few hours let alone days in an emergency.

Only a hard test of survival skills for city socialist types. By definition, they rely on other people (mostly the government) for everything. I have little sympathy for them, they have made there bed........in my valley, everyone owns minimum of a few hundred acres, we have equipment, animals, gardens, and could survive quite well. We produce our own water, power, heat, food, have well trained medical people and medicine (neighbors that are doctors and ranchers) in the area. I can produce enough power for everyone within 10 miles for a year and that doesn't count the Private hydro power we have available.

I think one flaw is believing the White House is in control. DC is the figurehead and mouthpiece for our day to day but from what I see they scramble to get their orders from corporate and financial bosses.

The US has been running itself since DC went after Bill Clinton. It's just been a disgusting playpen for millionaire senators saying our team is better. Outsiders, maybe insiders as well, figured out they'll never win a military take over. Chaos (KAOS) is their best weapon.

Well, one should allready know there inventory.

Sure cook up your spoilable stuff, if it were an "emp" and there isn't power. Else not sure how martial law would cut your power (you have alternate power for fridge/freezers...yes?).

Start organizing for an evacuation? You mean plan to bug out somewhere, I assume? So you allready have true places to bug out to...again I assume here.

If you do not have true places to go, then do not.

Unless it is a last resort kinda deal, and you'll surely die if you stay.

Thinking to just "head up in them hills" is just a plan for utter and complete failure, meaning death.

Just my opinion.

I'm also staying home and waiting it out. No need to break cover until you absolutely have to. If squads of people come to my home to confiscate our food, which I highly doubt, they are in for a very rude awakening.

A few days without internet and some people are going to curl up into a ball of lameness and die. But I also believe some people are going to be invigorated and rise up.
