Yah, it would be bad. Real bad.

Folks should think on how long they could go without NEEDING to go to a store. For ANYTHING.

Not want to go, mind, but NEED to.

Priorities IMO, should be:

1. Health. Spiritual, physical & financial.
2. Water. Not necassarily stored, but at least a means to a "safe" potable, and "convenient" source. Or one which can be made potable with relative ease.
3. Food you eat now.
4. Security.
5. Shelter.

IMO a sufficient supply of ammo should be #2. Ammunition will be the new currency !!

I would expect parts of the country to go Venezuela sooner rather that later. Look at the dumpster-fire of a state just to the south of us. The infrastructure is falling apart, they have something like $1.3 trillion in debt, the tax and regulatory situation is an absolute nightmare, the 2A is seriously infringed upon, etc., and yet they keep adding to the insanity year after year.

Don't worry they've (Kalifornian's) have come to Oregon to help you live "Your Best Life"

Venezuela - extended slide into chaos with no end in sight. Even well prepared citizens have used their backup supplies to even manage to survive long enough to see things go from bad to worse. Even remote subsistence farmers are struggling to hold on to their meager family crops from both government "troops" and the starving urban hoards that thought Socialism was a great idea.
U.S.A. - the long slide has already begun in the large urban centers but is mostly hidden by taxing and deficits but remains mostly a States' problem. When States start to get Federal bailouts it will become National and accelerate. This process of collapse will take years because the US is so large and there is no way to stockpile enough to outlast it. The only way to speed this collapse here would be to import millions upon millions of uneducated, destitute, sick, criminal masses.....

..... waiiiit a minute.... nah, we'd never elect politicians that are that stoopid!

About 10% of Venezuelans (4 million-ish people) have already fled the country since the revolution. I'd expect the same thing to happen in the US, but on a larger scale. Look at the migration away from the high-tax states to freer locales within the country. Such a capital flight would just accelerate the process.

You're referring to an economic migration. those are usually planned in advance and are done quite safely and routinely. A large scale disaster migration would be a be more on the chaotic side. Our basic options would be Canada or Mexico. Or, from our side of the country, points east of us.

It will. The large cities and the people who are the most dependent on "someone else" to take care of them. These people if they have never had to do for themselves will of course be the worst off the fastest. If all your life you have just been given everything you need to live and this gets cut off all of a sudden you will of course be lost.

Yep people with money will move the first and the fastest. People often don't see it but even in Venezuela there are still a lot of people living fine. They of course have a lot of people with guns protecting them as the "masses" go hungry.

Well, i suppose I won't be so against poaching for one...
Seeing as I just ran out of wood, i suppose I'd be looking for some of that.
I guess it's good I have a bunch of antique books, softer paper. ;)
Am I prepared? Only for some good times playing road warrior until I burn out!

I once told my worthless neighbor, "Tom, you're only any good as meat on the hoof for my dogs during a disaster." He was drunk and has probably forgotten. I haven't.

I will snack on the dog kibble if necessary. They'll rely on their neighbors.

There are reasons some cultures avoid pork. Other cultures just see hogs as a way to avoid thinking about what they are eating. I guess by the time diesel and quicklime become scarce...

On a more serious note. I used to correspond with a guy in Venezuela, he just dropped off the board a couple of years ago. He ran a jungle tour service, hope he's getting on ok.

Exactly.
That's how this so called SOCIALISM WORKS.
IF are on the top you stay on top .
Let's say like BERINE SANDERS.
MMMMM three homes worth millions.
But still pushing for SOCIALISM .
Because he thinks he will always on top.
Lol I garantee Berine is Never on top.
Lol

This is why I keep my Mom's place in the hills with a full propane tank and woodshed. She does all the canning and preservation (for now), and my lady is a hell of a bird hunter. I take the bigger stuff when I can, and worry about those who might attempt on it. We also maintain a shop with pit and an engine lift, and my stepdad (before he passed) stocked it with tools and car parts and manuals for damn near anything with an engine. There is room for good folks known to us to be useful and trustworthy, as well as cleared areas for cultivation.

No man is an island.

Thanks for reminding me to pick up some more bird shot. ;)
Might as well get some buckshot too.

Here is a little something I learned a while back.
3 weeks without food
3 days without water
3 hours without shelter
3 minutes without air
3 seconds without Positive Mental Attitude

I remember back around 2000 talking with a Venezuelan who was mad at Hugo Chavez, for Chavez messed up the Venezuelan oil company and this kid's dad lost the good job that supported the family nicely. A couple years ago, another Venezuelan informed me that hospitals in Caracas lacked supplies and surgical gloves were being sanitized and re-used and that I googled and found supporting news pieces at the time...this deterioration has been ongoing and a significant security risk for neighboring countries.

A few ways to prepare are to pay off or pay down debt significantly. Learn some important skills such as welding and some basic machining. Learn about solar power generation and capturing rainwater. Grow a garden. Maintain current passports and identification. If one can, acquire a property in a foreign country and have a good property management company rent it out. Be a good neighbor... Maintain Positive Mental Attitude at all times.
