We just got these back from being built. Board size is 0.432 X 0.665. Board is 6 layers and 0.031 thick. Large square pad is a 36 pin BGA. The two smaller square pads are 4 pin BGA voltage regulators. This will be soldered in place on an IC we can no longer get.

This points out a problem with our modern technology: what to do when the tiny custom IC's die. On consumer products, just scrap it and get another. On limited-production tools and industrial devices it becomes a question of can I find something current to do the job? If not, can something else be modified? And the final option, can I find someone who can jack-leg a fix?
