That particular specimen is in the "ew" range. I believe that the finish is the result of Gold Damascene. I'm not the biggest fan, and there are examples ranging from fantastic to crap, but I still admire the artistry. Maybe it is the partial Spanish blood, but I don't know.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in how it is done, and the history behind said, this video may be of interest.

Now You Can Accessorize Any Gun – The Dreaded M-1846 Kentucky Assault Rifle

{Abridged for length and common decency}

Mother of God ... so wrong on so many different levels. I can honestly say I didn't see that one coming. For shock value, it is hard to argue with though. LOL!

Thanks.
I have a collection of about 30 antique Muzzle loaders that I display at various shoot , rendezvous and museums ... and even shoot some of 'em.
The dates range from about 1780-1883.

I can so dig the history. Nice, very nice! :D

It was a fun project for exactly that; Humor & Shock (Plus a helluva lot of sarcasm). I can neither confirm or deny that the consumption of alcohol was involved in the making of that project. ;)

Book 19, chapter 11, verse 45

In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was the pistol, and it was
good. And behold the Lord said, thou shalt not muck with my disciple
John's design for it is good and it worketh. For John made the 1911,
and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the
Lord, gave him upon the mountain.

And shouldst thou muck with it and hang all manner of foul implements
upon it, and profane its internal parts, thou shalt surely have
malfunctions, and in the midst of battle thou shalt surely come to
harm.

And as the ages passed men in their ignorance and arrogance didst
forget the word of the Lord and began to profane the 1911. The tribe
of the gamesman did place recoil spring guides and extended slide
releases upon the 1911 and their metal smiths didst tighten the
tolerances and alter parts to their liking, their clearness of mind
being clouded by lust.

Their artisans did hang all manner of foul implements upon the 1911
and did so alter it that it became impractical to purchase. For lo,
the artisans didst charge a great tax upon the purchasers of the 1911
so that the lowly field worker could not afford one. And the profaning
of the internal parts didst render it unworkable when the dust of the
land fell upon it.

And lo, they did install adjustable sights, which are an abomination
unto the Lord. For they doth break and loose their zero when thou dost
need true aim. And those who have done so will be slain in great
numbers by their enemies in the great battle.

And it came to pass that the Lord didst see the abomination wrought by
man and didst cause, as he had warned, fearful malfunction to come
upon the abominations and upon the artisans who thought they could do
no wrong.

Seeing the malfunctions and the confusion of men the lord of the
underworld did see an opportunity to further ensnare man and didst
bring forth pistols made of plastic, whose form was such that they
looked and felt like a brick, yet the eyes of man being clouded, they
were consumed by the plastic pistol and did buy vast quantities of
them.

And being a deceitful spirit the lord of the underworld did make these
plastic pistols unamenable to the artisans of earth and they were
unable to muck much with the design, and lo these pistols did
function.

And the evil one also brought forth pistols in which the trigger didst
both cock and fire them and which require a "dingus" to make them
appear safe.

But man being stupid did not understand these new pistols and did
proceed to shoot themselves with the plastic pistol, and with the
trigger cocking pistols for lo their manual of arms required great
intelligence which man had long since forsaken.

Yet man did not repent of his evil ways, but continued to gloat over
these new pistols blaming Satan for the negligent discharges which
they themselves had committed.

And when man had been totally ensnared with plastic pistol, the lord
of the underworld didst cause a plague of the terrible Ka-BOOM to
descend upon man and the plastic pistols delivered their retribution
upon men. And there was a great wailing and gnashing of teeth in the
land.

Then seeing that the eyes of man were slowly being opened and that man
was truly sorrowful for his sinful misdeeds, the Lord did send his
messengers in the form of artisans who did hear and obey the teachings
of the prophet and who didst restore the profaned 1911s to their
proper configuration, and lo, to the amazement of men they didst begin
to work as the prophet had intended.

:s0112::s0112::s0112: OMG I have tears in my eyes I'm laughing so friggin hard!! I passed the lap top around and we are all laughing our @zzes off!

The above WILL be copied and hung on the wall in my reloading shed!

Fellow Gun lovers. What Firearm do you find ridiculous , impractical,
would never waste your money on??
And give a reason why.o_O

I will start with the Desert Eagle in 50 AE. Size and weight makes it not a piece
you want to pack all day. It needs full power loads to make it work. I have witnessed
several with reliability issues?
And the recoil is nothing but EXTREMELY BRUTAL. To the point of being unbarrable
to put a couple magazines through it.:confused: If you don't have a flinch now the DE in
50 will give you one.:(
OK Let the hate begin.:mad::mad: The 'real man' that packs 2 DE's all day long
in shoulder holsters and shoots it one handed.

For me it has to be the S&W .500 Magnum. I got all caught up in the hype of the damn thing 12 years ago and bought one. Unbelievably useless gun. A 50 AE has NOTHING on the recoil of this weapon! It was so bad that my hand would actually cramp for 3 days after a session at the range. I actually gave it away to a friend as a birthday present and have never regretted it once. There is just no need for a revolver that can kill Cape Buffalo with a single shot. My 10mm will kill a Grizzly Bear if I come across one. This was just a case of wasting $1,000.00 on a toy hoping that no one would notice how small my di(k is!

Does ridiculously nifty count?

I've got to admit I like some of the guns on this list. But that Mossberg tacticool lever gun is NOT one of them. Jerry Miculek's 45/70 revolver would be welcome in my safe. I'd buy the BFR in 45/70 though, easier to find. And I'm not getting rid of my AK pistols, the kids can sell them when I'm gone. Practical, no but they sure put a big grin on my face every time.:D

That particular gun looks a little odd. I don't see the pivot pin for the trigger. And it's a screw build. Anyway I joined the AK files several years ago. I ran across a post that referenced back to when some members there where building those type pistols. Back when parts kits were cheap. It was a fad that last for a year or so. If I remember correctly they called them stub guns, cause they were built using the barrel stubs that came with the parts kits. A parts kit and an AK flat was all they needed. Plus some scrap lumber for the handguard & grip. To me it was interesting how they built them. They had to cut the bolt carrier off and remount the end of the gas piston to it. Then center drill through both and replace the rod on the recoil spring with the cleaning rod from the kit. Plus drill thru the gas block. So the cleaning rod went from the rear trunnion with the recoil spring then thru the bolt carrier with gas piston stub and out thru the gas block. This was all to make sure the gas piston went back into the gas block. In the photo you can see the rod sticking out thru the gas block into the front sight. Not saying I want to build one. But I found them interesting and some looked good to me.

Soon after my likening the Desert Eagle to Napoleonic artillery, a new and even more absurd iteration has been introduced in .357 Mag (yeah, I know it already comes in .357). If you want an auto in .357 the Coonan gives it to you in a 1911 size package for less money. Not to offend anybody who appreciates ugly, but the DE is as ugly as a mud fence (my other euphemisms for ugly can't be presented here). If you're going to use a pistol that requires a Radio Flyer to carry it you might as well go with a carbine and at least have a useful gun.

Yeabut doesn't @Joe Link have one of those.?. so you must be wrong. lol. (I haven't read the thread yet and hope fourteen people haven't said the same thing).
The only ridiculous guns are those that don't work 100%. Well, kinda.. I had a black powder duckfoot that was pretty ridiculous but kinda fun in a dumb way.
On that note, I do want to get a blunderbuss though.
Who cares if Joe has one? You got some sort of "Man Crush" on Joe?

Yikes! If this was my site , you would be banned for life...:D:D:D:D:D
Just kidding!
I just don't have the words to say what I think about that rifle... Well I do actually ... but then I'd be banned...:D
Andy
I'm gonna disagree, repulsive as I find it...

If it makes DiFi, Bloomer and Schumer keel over from apoplexy it will have Done Its Duty... and at that point should be hailed as the Rifle That Helped Win the Second American Revolution. :)

Well that is still too much tactical crap for me....
I also understand that the rifle was probably made that way as a joke ...
That said...its someone's rifle...and they can do what they want to it

Luckily we are not limited to my likes and dislikes in the world of firearms....:D

Yeah... you'd probably hate my Briefcase AR--personally I think the thing's ugly as sin myself, but it was built with a philosophy of "only Function matters and to Hell with Form," brutal combat effectivity even if it means I have to stomp on every single toe in the gun world to achieve it, fettered only by the limits of the law, technology and my checkbook.

But going back to Mission... the girlfriend really likes it, and if it makes me more effective in keeping her safe it too has Done Its Duty--helping me get into her pants is just a nice Above & Beyond bonus. :D
