I also have a Winchester Pre-64 in 30-06 freshly fancied up
I'm available for adoption

I muzzleloaded for deer last week in eastern Wa and packed a 4" pre lock 686 in a bianchi rh leather belt holster. Since I needed my muzzle loading possibles in a small belt pouch on right side, I put the rh bianchi holster on the left side of my hip with butt facing forward. It was surprisingly comfortable while hunting/hiking and also while riding in truck. Access was also quite handy cross draw style. I helped a friend sight in his new muzzleloader on his property before we hunted. After that was done I shot 2rds of my .357 reloads at a 3"x4" rock 50yds away and smoked it both times. My woods carry loads for this pistol are 158gr xtp's at 1275fps.
XTP's are a great handgun bullet. Real tough. I've used them in 41 Mag and 45 ACP. When I can find the stuff, it's what I'll be loading for .357.
A pre-lock 686+ 4" is one I really screwed up on. Should'a never let it go. I shot that gun a lot at 40-50 yards.

Back in the good ol' days (which was less than a year ago) I could stop by my local Walmart and pick up a couple of boxes of XTPs, a couple of trays of CCI small pistol primers, and a can of Titegroup for $75. I'd be all set for a couple of months worth of plinking .40 S&W.

Crazy how things devolved so quickly. None of that is sold by my Walmart anymore, and none of it can be found online.

Savage 110 and Ruger SP101.

Due to work commitments I've been able to hunt for all of three hours.

I found this Doe. I asked where her boyfriend was but she kept silent. I guess she's a deer, not a rat.

Forgive my ignorant question. I don't hunt or track, but I love learning about signs of wildlife:
How do you know that was caused by a bull elk?

The bark stripped from the bush indicates that an animal with antlers rubbed on it. Elk and deer shed their antlers every year and regrow them. When they regrow they have a felt on them that they rub off on small trees and large shrubs. They also rub trees to leave scent as a calling card during the rut to let other males know that its their area. Some do it just to take out some aggression. Judging by the size of this, and the fact that OP saw a bull elk nearby, would indicate that this was an elk rub. Deer rubs tend to be smaller. I've seen sappling trees completely split by elks rubbing before.

Took my UTV for a ride up in the Idaho woods today. Goal was to get to an old forest service lookout and get some beautiful pics of the area.

Got up there and the direction with the beautiful view was covered in clouds and fog.:(

Temps were in the 20's with the sun peaking out every now and then. I dressed a little too light for bombing through the forest with the wind on me, but it was still fun. Only went maybe 16 miles. First time I had taken my Honda Pioneer in the mountains in snow. Still not much snow yet, but I discovered that my super aggressive tires are bit squirrely on hard-packed snow, but did fine in the deeper stuff on the trail. Went everywhere in 2wd with no issues.

Since the bears were hibernating, brought along my Glock G19 Gen 5 MOS in an OWB leather holster with thumb break.

We're having some work done in our woods, and I drove out to see how things were progressing today. The usual .45 XDS in my pocket, and I happened to have a CZ Scorpion in the truck.

Logging slash is being chipped up, and we're gradually opening the stand up so we can walk around in there comfortably.
