What do you think the average firearm is worth?

So on occasion I use the idea that to remove firearms from the economy of the USA would be devastating or someone suggests the government buy up the firearms or some other stupid idea. Along these lines I have been using 450 million firearms x their average market value. And its been put forth my estimate of value is wrong so I thought a poll might be interesting. Keep in mind this is everything from POS .25 autos to $100,000.00+ Winchesters and Antiques etc.

Most hover around $500 with about another $100-$500 in mags/parts.

Generalized, Id round up and say more like $800-$1k is the average price factoring in the extras.

I'd almost be argue that the average cost be even lower. $300 or so. For every $1000 gun there are 20x hi points, Taurus, kel tecs, lorcins, cheap mill surps and old .22s that are worth $100-$200. For every fancy $10,000 gun, there are 50x Ar15 lowers at $40 each. I think the only reason these common guns aren't flooding the classifieds here is because it's more hassle then they're worth to sell through an FFL.

I voted 400 , only because it's the lowest number on the page. Garages, attics, barns and basements have plenty of $50 rimfires and shotguns unused but still in existence. Tonnage would drag the average down from where you might think.

Not nearly as much as you would like , if you go to sell it or trade it....

I would guess somewhere between....$200 - $1000 , for what most folks have.

I don't have a lot of firearms, and none are high-end. Only a news reporter would call my bunch an "arsenal" and I think most here at NWFA would say "add a few for a good start".

I just calculated the average I've spent since 2010: $447. That, times 450 million comes out to a number so big I don't know how to say it: $201,150,000,000.

I don't believe that four extra mags for a pistol makes it worth more than a new one however.

For what it's worth I have records for the cost of 366 firearms. Some purchased new, most used, a few received as gifts, some with accessories, some just parts. Contents range from a free Ruger P90 to an AYA shotgun at $3200. Some collectibles, some run-of-the-mill, one rifle won in a raffle, lots of inexpensive .22 rifles, etc. They average is $381.26. That includes whatever may have come with them but nothing purchased for them afterwards. This is over a timeframe of 30+ years, though 90% of them in the last fifteen.

While not a gun snob and not having high end guns my personal average is over 1k. I just don’t have the cheap guns in my collection.

I can say the $400 number might be a tad low.

Keep in mind 1) $50,000 machine gun or Winchester or English drilling averages out 1000 $50 guns to $99.00

Now granted there aren't a lot of $50.000 rifles or pistols around but there are one hell of a lot of $1000 firearms.

And accessories don’t mean anything or bump the value up that much. It’s not the value that the owner places on the item. It’s what someone will actually pay. We all know that.
