Voted for .40 and .45, which is what I have historically carried and have readily accessible in the house. A couple of years ago I bought a FN 5.7x28 and really enjoyed shooting it. Very accurate, minimal recoil, about same size as a 1911 but lighter - even with 17 rounds. So this last year I started carrying it and really like it. I'll probably switch back the .40 in the summer - kinda hard to conceal it with shorts and a t-shirt.

I voted 9mm Luger but I carry 357 SIG. I am phasing out of this and going back to the 9mm. I've got my personal handgun choices down to four cartridges: 9mm, 10mm Auto, 44 mag, and 454 Casull. :)

Crimson Trace makes a great laser sight for that P3AT. It cost about what you probably paid used for the gun, and you'll need a new holster, but given the almost non-existent sights, it's a huge improvement. Also I think DeSantis makes a holster for that gun with the CT on it.

I tried replying on my phone, but it looks like the internet ate that.

I found the Crimson Trace sight you mentioned, as well as the DeSantis pocket holder. I haven't been able to buy another gun or a graphics card for my pc, so I might as well buy these things instead.

Thanks for the tip.

It's a great training aid for the sights too. I used to use the laser with the sights to verify that I had proper sight alignment in bad lighting conditions.

Also, MCARBO makes an improved takedown pin that won't walk, has a larger head and is tempered. (Huh, sounds like a personals add.)

I carry 9mm or 357 Sig when I'm in public, 357 mag around the house, so I marked 9mm and 357 Mag.

No Sir,
The Original .45 Colt, Kids want to call it the .45 Long Colt for some reason
Yeah, the word "Long", used as a prefix, was just a nickname from the old days in order to distinguish it from the .45 Short Colt, which used a "heeled" bullet like a .22, or the .45 Schofield.
Their has, (IIRC,) never been an official SAAMI designation of a cartridge called a ".45 Long Colt".

Hornady's H.I.T.S. formula is a fair predictor of round effectiveness. While other variables come into play like bullet construction and target characteristics, the formula is used as a rough guide by governments and LE.

Formula
Wound index=((bullet weight in grains squared) times (velocity in fps)) / ((700000 times (bullet diameter squared))

Using this formula, my humble 9 mm 124 grain at 1150 fps gets a score of 200.

My 45 colt with a 300 grain at 1000 FPS gets a score of 629.

My colt 1911 45 ACP 230 grain load at 830 fps gets a 308 score.

My 357 mag 3" at 1250 fps with a 135 grain gets a score of 255

My 454 Casull at 1500 fps with a 335 grain gets a score of 1177

For the big stuff, the 458 Winchester at 2200 fps with a 500 grain gets a score of 3746

And for that rare forum member, your 700 nitro at 2000 fps with a 1000 grain bullet your rifle's score is 5831
