Unfortunately, they'll probably use the fact that he passed a background check as a way to support even more stringent background check laws - obviously they're not stringent enough now! The only failure here was by everyone who essentially ignored his mental health problems. They are really the only ones to blame.

I fear the worst may be yet to come. As we've seen on the tread on this topic over in the legal and political section, the main focus seems to be about mental health recognition and treatment. What is not discussed, is what to do about it. Perhaps those involved in the discussion are fearful of touching that third rail. It should come as no surprise that there will soon be a movement to tie electronic health information to not only gun sales, but gun ownership in general. If the antis get their way, this may become a nightmare of epic proportions. We'll see all of the surplus military vehicles used by the local police in raids against gun owners who have been "declared dangerous" by "someone".

We had this discussion over a year and a half ago on this forum and still, there was little serious thought given to what the next oppressive step may be.

Be on the alert folks. The current law is focused on "adjudicated" in order to be denied a constitutional right. And that's the way it should be. Look for new laws, or even worse, police actions because "someone needs to do something".

another old thread dug up, but want to point something out. The two posts I quoted here from etrain and PiratePast were posted in 2014. Its now 2017 and Oregon just passed, er rammed thru, the "extreme risk protection order" SB719. The fact that the Isla Vista shooter passed his background check has led to more stringent laws.
The now current law is no longer focused on the "adjudicated" in order to have your gun rights removed, instantly and without warning by someone who "needed to do something". I dont think it would be a far cry to say that someday soon your gun rights will be tied to your health record.

My brief statement addresses both the little squabble and the necro post.

That said, I'm a socialist, so I tend to side with the liberal poster. I also see the point of the undisclosed poster, in not wanting to divert the attention of the thread. Somebody has to have the last word, but nobody ever wants that to be the other guy. I hope they're not cussing eachother out in PM. LoL it's good to get along and work together, but you can't always agree on everything (unless you're married [HAH]).

I dont get why anyone in the US is a socialist.. Our country is founded on capitalism, why would anyone born here want to change our country into Venezuela? Socialism is just a step towards Communism and that is a dictatorship! It doesnt work our how people think it will.. socialism in theory is a perfect society but in practice it leads to dictatorship every time..

That's a Marxist quote, probably said by Lenin as well. Anything done by the government is socialist.
I don't understand why anyone is a capitalist. Inevitably people are only commodities or consumers in capitalism. Capitalism can exist in a form without a constitutional government, which would in turn result in monopolizing power and dictatorship.
The US Constitution is one of the greatest socialist documents ever written. Upholding the constitution means you are upholding some degree of socialism.
In all truth, nations are founded on socialism, whereas companies are founded on capitalism.

In this case, I think it's valid to be looking at the past and see how much closer we are to the warnings. I hate to see the dire predictions coming closer and closer to reality.

There are atleast if not more :

1. Anti-Gun Liberals
2. Pro-Gun Liberals
   
3. Anti-Gun Conservatives
4. Pro-Gun Conservatives
   
5. Anti Gun Republicans and Pro Gun Rights
   
6. Anti-Gun Democrats and Pro Gun Rights
   
7. There are LBGT that are for gun rights
8. There are LBGT thats are not for gun rights.
9. There are Veterans that approve of owning a gun.
10. There are Veterans who want nothing to do with them.
11. There are politicians for and against gun rights.
12. There are Religions For Gun Rights.
13. There are Religions Against Gun Rights.

I could go on, but until we as " FIREARMS OWNERS " need to wake up and realize there is no one single pro-gun entity we are going to lose our arse every time until we get our heads out of the sand.

I consider myself a Conservative, Middle right Firearms owner.
I support any group that wants gun rights preserved. I am guilty of labels myself.
But until we learn we are not a group of firearms owners. We are people that are firearms
owners we will lose each and every time.
