Stocked up on 22 lr ammo seeing how tensions are rising in the world. Better to have it and not need it vs need it and not have it

I canned applesauce and added to my canned meat.

Received some more canning lids and our new bleed-stopping supplies from Brown Santa. Also got enough fatwood to last us through a full winter. It's not necessary to start a fire, but it sure makes it easy! Need to get to Wal-mart and get some more jars to finish the canning season up this weekend hopefully.

Well- maybe not the tomatoes, but everything else.

Ordered some "Spanish" rice in retort packages.

Got a Apache 5800 carry on case (on sale with coupon for $77) at Harbor Freight

Filled up the tank of my pickup.

Got some groceries.

My CB radio was delivered.

ETA: I forgot; I ordered some cast iron saucepans on sale on Amazon, and a lead dipper.

They are available everywhere but I got these at Harbor Freight just cuz I LIKE those guys.

Not just for me, but to handout to the elderly neighbors who come over, looking for matches and candles when the power goes out.

Better I give them THESE than for them to BURN DOWN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

I keep seeing people talking about candles and oil wick lanterns with fragile glass globes, and I keep telling them to get a battery lantern instead, and if they want a fueled lantern to get one with a mantle instead of a wick (much brighter light and much more efficient).

We've got Karosine as a backup heat and light fuel so use the wick and glass globe lamps. One thing nice about them is they give off quite a bit of heat so will help warm a room. You just got to be careful with them. We do have other battery flashlights and head lamps for when we are doing stuff and moving about. We also have a Propane mantel type lantern but don't use it in the house only out in the garage with a door open a bit.

Those are nice, but spendy and not for indoor use. Our Coleman propane lantern and 2 burner stove works just fine out in the garage. In the house we heat with a wood stove anyway.

Yes - I use a wood stove for my heating most of the time (right now the furnace is running instead), but I have used the lantern inside the house without issues. I have CO detectors all over the place and the house is easily ventilated if I choose to do so.

I have battery powered lighting as a backup all over the house - some of them are LED bulbs with internal battery backup, so they are controlled by the light switch and switch to batteries automatically when the power goes out - they last 2-4 hours.

LOL, yes, I'm up at 6 am. The alarm goes off at 5:30. But I am on Mountain Time, so I often get on the computer at 7. I get a nice, quiet, relaxed morning before I begin work at 8. When I was teaching I had to leave the house at 6:20 am, so this is a nice change.

Canned 6 pints of diced tomatoes. I got 7 pints of salsa about a week ago. We've had one light frost last Wed that put an end to the zucchini and cucumbers, I wasn't broken-hearted. Strawberries and cilantro weren't bothered at all. I've pulled all the carrots and ended up with 16 quarts. Not as much as I'd hoped. I'll have to expand them next year. Out of the three varieties, I found one that is my favorite as far a shape and texture, the St. Valery. I will likely only plant those next year. Still harvesting green onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and several other things from the green house, but I think I've only got another two weeks, looking at the long-term weather report. I could heat the greenhouse, but I'm getting tired of canning.
