:)

Repositioned some roofing panels to an area near a shed that is under construction, organized parked trailers & equipment, and laid low till 1600; BBQd elk sirloin, then whacked weeds in the woodlot until 2030.

Great day.

I found one that looks just like it at a garage sale for a buck.
That's a classic butchers shaped knife, well one of them.
And no mine don't look so purty

Another great knife that you can get for around $10 is the Onterio Old Hickory... 35B76907-955F-474D-82A3-602F24BBFA5F-474-000000A5F8F9D752_tmp.jpg made out of carbon steel here in the USA...
You can get a few, put them in BOBs etc. I spent an evening customizing this one for my BOB. I put a finger choil, and jimped the top for a better grip, contoured and notched the handle scales so I could get more paracord on it, and drilled a lanyard hole so it doesn't fly out of the hand when chopping. Still need to make/buy a sheath for it. It takes a razor edge too. Being carbon steel it's a good to force a pitina with vinagre or cold blue to prevent rusting. Also cheap enough that you can experiment with cutting them down to different shapes, lengths and profiles. IMG_2195.JPG

I really like this thread... With the break in prices and availability we are enjoying right now we should all be taking advantage, and stocking up on this stuff, because it's not going to last long.
I stayed up all night loading Ammo for my recently completed 300 blackout pistol.. IMG_2159.JPG IMG_2198.JPG
100 rounds of 130Grain HPs
100 rounds of 208grain ELD match subsonic
It's weird loading a bullet that is longer than the case it's going into.
Need more brass, and projos... Next month I'll get a jig and HarborFrieght cutoff saw so I can convert .223, Got plenty of 9mm, 38special, and .357 mag to keep the press moving till then.

That's a common knife to chop up into a different shape. I've seen lots of vids out there that guys make some cool knive out of those.
I have a drawer full of garage sale knives,I'd never buy a new Hickory knife, lol
Good job there too.

Went on (another) run. I've been on a diet for 2.5 weeks now (approximately 10x longer than usual) and have lost 10+ pounds so far. Considering I have a 35-mile walk from my office to home in the event of a Cascadia quake, I (finally) am considering fitness to be part of my preps.

I haven't done jack, except reading and making lists. Damned pneumonia just will not release it's grip on my chest.
I just ordered a Becker BK-5 Magnum Camp Knife. It has an eight inch blade! I'm prolly gonna hurt myself! o_O

The new BK-5 arrived! I really like it! Makes that full sized Beretta 92fs look like a pocket pistol, doesn't it? :D

I got 3 inflatable rafts, to go in the trunks of our cars. Hopefully we'll all be able to get across the Willamette and back to the farm if the big earthquake hits and takes out the bridges while we're out and about.

Ordered some of these compressed towelettes, and planning to order more:

I've been experiencing what happens if you don't make fitness a part of your preps. You get old and things don't work right and you metabolism slows so you need twice as much exercise.
Your shoulders get sore,no push-ups,your knees hurt,no walking,you get gout,no doing anything.
Then you gain more weight.:(
Gotta start while the bones can take exercise ;)

Starting last night, and for the rest of next week, I will using a dozer to clear some brush near my house and level out the ground so I can more easily mow the underbrush in the woods around my house when it gets too much.

Right now, there are a lot of ruts, holes, stumps and debris left from the thinning I had done a couple of years ago. This makes it difficult for anything short of a forest mulcher to go through and keep the brush cut down. If I can get the ground level then a day or two with my flail mower should do the job, whereas before I spent many weekends in the summer mowing and only getting some of it done.

Keeping the brush down/cleared reduces fire danger and allows me to better see someone approaching the house through the woods.

I have a gully that runs the length of my property, so I am pushing much of the brush to the edge of that, which should make it difficult to come up out of the gully to my house - or at least discourage intruders from that direction. I do have some trails to access that part of my property and those will be left in tact - allowing me access and making a bottleneck for intruders.

Getting old sucks. I am out of shape and it is hard to get back in shape. Then there are the things that don't really have anything to do with exercise.

A couple of weeks ago my vitreous humor in my left eye detached from my optic nerve - it is called PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment - Posterior Vitreous Detachment - The American Society of Retina Specialists - The American Society of Retina Specialists ). This is something that happens to many people when they get older (60s or later) - the humor liquifies and changes shape, and can detach and it can sometimes cause retinal tearing.

At the least, you start to get more significant 'floaters' (tissue from the humor) in your eye and other symptoms. I noticed a significant floater and went to the opthamologist twice. The second time with a much more significant floater and my humor had detached. The floater is somewhat fading - I am lucky in that regard, but it does obscure my vision in that eye - hopefully it will eventually go away completely.

If you notice these symptoms, see an opthamologist ASAP.

Did some more dozer work.

Ordered 4 Baofeng HTs (70cm) for ($20 per 2) from Amazon - figured these could be giveaways to neighbors if SHTF.

Ordered some ammo holders - a strap/belt and a foldable wallet and a buttstock holder. Amazon had these on sale through gundeals as 'add on items" for a less than $2-$3 each

Went and purchased a new Ruger PR in .308 today. $1225 at Rich's. Could get it cheaper but they give a lifetime warranty on what they sell so there's that.

Think i'm done now in the rifle department, but now I need to go buy all new ammo!

Nice score, well priced, and fewer folks have fondled it.

...and an optic for it, can't be swapping an optic around on "the precious"...

Just some odds'n'ends as busy at work and had a nasty reaction to some medication earlier this morning ...

  • Picked up some tools from the farm supply to continue clearing more ground for growing. I will be hitting that tomorrow. Once that ground is totally clear, we can put up a much larger greenhouse.
  • Picked up some good .30 Carbine ammo (Hornady Critical Defense) for the M1.
  • Continued the study of the emcomms book.
  • Bought a little bit of cheap 5.56mm ammo just because.
  • Though we are good on mags, considering the proposed (and sadly in a couple cases passed) laws I grabbed another P-Mag on the way up to the cash register. ;)

Dropped a Vortex 4-12x40 that I already owned onto it and mounted a bipod. Out to 'exercise' it in the morning. 100 then 200 . Brown's Camp quarry is not much more than that so I guess I'll be asking for other options soon on longer spaces.
