Went into my local Roths fresh market for a quick shop, saw they had Western Family quick oats on special. 42 oz cardboard cans at 2/$1. That's less than $.20/lb!!

Bobs Red Mill via cash & carry is a bit more than $.60/lb, which is a great price, but it's a bastard to vacuum pack sanitarily.

These are short dated, April 1 2017. Doesn't matter though, as it's oats.

They are perfectly sized to flat pack vacuum pack in foodsaver bags as well. Open top, pour into vac bag, no scooping nor funneling needed.

Will be the perfect size to gift to families in need, should something bad happen. 30 150 calorie servings at 5g protein.

Gonna hit them up tomorrow & buy a few cases.

Yeah, I found out on my way to work this morning that mine's been geared the other direction. It'll climb a tree but I'd be surprised if I could hit 55. I plan for it to be 95% trail use anyway.

Wow! I'm a suburban Survivalist, myself. Since I plan on bugging in, when I do need to travel (patrolling, visiting others, etc.) I want to be able to haul bubblegum.
If you ever want to re-sprocket your rear-end, I would go to Sprocket Specialists (if they're still around). They will actually make you a sprocket on order!

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably leave it alone for now. I've picked up a front rack and I'll probably get a Cyclerack for the rear then add panniers and a fuel can holder. They're rated at something like 395lb carrying capacity so I should be able to stack pretty deep.
Whenever it's dry Ive been riding it. Can't get over how insanely fun this goofy little thing is.

Inflatable rafts and bolt cutters would be two good things to have for urban survivalists; who live around major rivers like in Oregon.....

Ramping up for spring bear and archery seasons; switching from 125 grain to 100 on broadheads.....99% complete. A new pack is $200+ so I'll be sticking with my L ALICE pack again.....

Got my Sig back from Tim today and took it out to the woods. He said it still needs a new sear assembly and indeed it does:) Gave up on it for now and went for a hike in the rain to test my down coats waterproofness, work off some winter sloth and take the new pup out. We were walking on snow. Made it a bit of distance up to the beaver dam and was happy to see recent beaver activity on the trees, walked back. Coat was plenty wet, and was happy that my t shirt underneath was still dry.

Giving the new waterproof down 2 thumbs up.

Made PVC protective sleeves for the 15" 2m/70cm antennas used with ham radio handhelds. Used 1/2" PVC pipe, two end caps, glue one on, leave the other for friction fit. Lightweight, rigid, cheap protection for antennas when packed in a vehicle, backpack, etc.

Interesting thought process, but personally If I were into motos, I'd have a spare low ready to bolt on & tools to adjust the chain etc. If something were to happen which caused you to have to patrol & such, the roads would be a quagmire of detritus, blockages & such. You'd find yourself wanting to make cut thrus off road quite frequently one would think.

Did some odds and ends today:

  • Acquired more canned goods.
  • Loaded up more survival-related ebooks on my tablet. (I've found I can get through a lot of material with said device during times I otherwise would waste.)
  • Some M1 Carbine magazines came in today. They were a bit oily, so I cleaned them up and applied a rust preventative. For the grins, I put two of them together via a clip. I've read that Audie Murphy attached carbine mags in a similar fashion, so why not. ;)

Nice! Have this guy setting aside for when we move to a new place.

Can't hardly imagine a need for it being charged up in town...but, we do keep pmags at the handy and 1 beta-c 100...

Gave my wife her birthday gift. A new Ruger Lc9s. Didn't have to teach her how to shoot it, she's a darn good shot. Shot some cans in back yard already.
Bad news is, another gun to clean and she blasted through 120 rounds of my premium hp ammo. Ah well, at least we know it all feeds and shoots reliably. Heading back into town tomorrow to sign her up for her cpl.

Alien gear makes a nice IWB for those, but I've taken to using a cheapo plastic one off of Midway for it, when just going out for a quick errand run.

No longer my primary CC, but still handy for quick grab & go, especially now that the weather has been a bit warmer.

I'll see if I can't find a link to the inexpensive one on the overnite...

Would be nice for me, haha but she doesn't wear belts unless they're "cute" and match her outfit. Got her a carry purse from cabelas and a bra holster to try out. She has to wait for her actual birthday for those, about 3 1/2 weeks so should line up with her getting the cpl in the mailbox.
I carry a beretta 92 daily iwb.. sometimes a glock 21 iwb. I might get one for myself and go the pocket holster route. Sweet little gun.

While I love hearing about what people are doing to prep, I'm not sure why I'd want to advertise (even here) that I'm doing so. (By the way no preps here - I can barely make myself breakfast tomorrow with the food stored here, no stored ammo, no makings and surely no guns of any kind.)

That said, while it's nice to show off our guns, preps and other plans to deal with unexpected eventualities, why would anyone advertise, even here?

My bad, I didn't see the "no discussion" header. Please ignore.
