When my son was 7 or 8 years old, he was really into cooking, and he was pretty damned good at it, too. One of favorite desserts is crème brûlée. One of those Christmases back then, he asked Santa for a culinary torch, and Santa brought him one. My son made me some of the best crème brûlée desserts I have ever had. One of the best parts of that gift was telling my friends that Santa had brought my young son a blowtorch. Ya shoulda seen the faces when they heard that, what with my friends knowing all about the crazy antics with fire that I had gotten into in my storied childhood...
