Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
Same as omenwolf - 9mm Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P. I've read many favorable things about this particular load. 410 ft-lbs at the barrel is very good. Cor-Bon makes a +P 9mm that is 125gr and delivers 434 at barrel.
BTW, I've read that carrying homebrew ammo is not the best idea. If you have to use your gun, would you rather testify in court:
(1) "I used ammunition commonly available at any sporting goods store or Wal-mart."
or
(2) "I made the ammunition myself, loading a 124 grain hollowpoint on top of IMR 4064, tweaking a recipe I've been researching for several months..."
Gun people know that (2) vs (1) is immaterial - it's your actions not the details of your ammunition that matter. But to an ignorant jury member, (2) makes you sound like a gun nut instead of just another citizen.
Same here using 124gr GDHP's and Vihtavouri 3N37 for my 9mm. Why pay three or four times the cost for the same round. I practice with used cases and load for carry with new. After a year the "new" then becomes "used" and I load some more "new".
Federal Premium 230 gr. HST Law Enforcement version. Because it's tactical! Got a deal on several 50 round boxes. Make it easy to blow up clay pigeons at 75 yards. Moving on to PNW Arms loaded 185 gr ssolid copper hollow points when the other stuff is gone. Yes, every other month I shoot and rotate my loaded carry mags. Call me crazy, you wouldn't be the first.
