Arizona has been blatant as **** about not liking Mexicans. Despite what the official verbiage may be on illegals, it's taken as a blanket against all people of Mexican descent. That's going to cause a backlash. I don't know anyone would be surprised that young people would get more militant in the face of the Arizona law. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to actually enforce our immigration laws, but Arizona isn't even a little subtle in the subtext of it's law. Actions have consequences.
That's funny.. there are PLENTY of "Latino-Americans" on the various AZ. police forces, and a good portion of the population is of "Latino" descent. Maybe, just MAYBE they are sick and tired of the drain on resources that ILLEGAL ALIENS (the majority being Mexican), and their ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES are responsible for. Maybe, just MAYBE they are sick of being the "kid napping capitol of the USA"... maybe, just MAYBE they are sick of MEXICAN gang-bangers vacillating over the border "doing what they do" for the drug cartels... you know STINKING THE PLACE UP with their "civic minded activities", like drive-by shootings, graffitti/vandalism, rapes, assaults, murders, larcenies, extortion, and... drug dealing.
Spare me... if it were Sri-Lankans, or Russians, or Martians that were the majority of ILLEGAL ALIENS, then they would be the poster-children of "racism"... besides, I didn't know "Mexican" was a race. As for "young people getting militant", they are only doing that because they sense WEAKNESS on the part of our government in enforcing our immigration laws. You enjoying the recent outbreak of TUBERCULOSIS in the PDX schools? Hmmm...... I do KNOW that LEGAL IMMIGRANTS are screened for that in the immigration process... I KNOW because my wife and three kids are LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
Let there be a "backlash", its THEIR fault for breaking our laws in the first place, and its the U.S. AUTHORITIES fault for not enforcing our laws in the second place... its called, "consequenses for your actions/inactions".
