California Transplants.

I remember seeing all of them flooding into Southern Oregon, as a kid. Those were mostly retirees, with nothing better to do than try to shape their new home like their old home. Portland has attracted all of the working age folks that want California in the PNW.

Yeah, I grew up in Oregon and watched Portland transform from a mellow, laid-back big town of loggers, hippies and just average working class folk to a big city full of snotty, stuck-up, fascist liberal hipster and yuppie transplants from California, the East Coast and Chicago. They came to Portland with their own vision and decided to try to attempt to transform it to like the messed up places they ran away from. It's really shameful, because Portland use to be such a fun and friendly place, but now it is just becoming like any other big city.

I like Portland back when it was a little more ghetto (in the inner city part), but people seem to look out for each other and the neighborhoods had a friendly vibe, where people knew each other and respected each other more for differences. Hawthorne, where I use to live, use to be really, upbeat place. Now, it has been replaced with very uppity types and the street no longer has all the charm and cool-stuff it once had. The neighborhood coffeeshops and bars use to be friendly, people meetup and hang out there. You would get to know the baristas and bartenders. Now, it is just a bunch of cold-faced, emotionless busybodies who hide behind their laptops/tablets in overpriced coffeeshops and bars. Basically, becoming Seattle. I don't even know how to explain the downfall of Portland, but the city has lost its heart.

The whole state of Oregon really has been devastated.

There is 5 or six counties that make a very small area,that rule Oregon. Last election kitzhaber was behind in the vote count and said multnomah county has not been counted yet and he got the most votes there. I guess that makes him governor of multnomah county. Time to bring back the State of Jefferson idea!

Not a bad idea. Last time the congress had a vote scheduled for it, other events took precidence, the date was be Dec 8th, 1941.

They keep talking about breaking up Cali into like 4 or 5 pieces.

Just another bs proposed law that wastes tax payer money and law makers time. The guy who wrote even said it would go no where.

This is why oregon is in overwhelming debt, csn't afford schools or cops, and going bankrupt with pers, trimet, pretty much everything else. But they have money for homeless people, and welfare.

I was under the impression that Nazis were a political party that took over the German government in the 30's,
Tried to take over the world, and killed 6 million Jews in their quest for racial purity.

I didn't realize it was much more sinister than that:

Do nothing politicians proposing do nothing bills with no chance of passing for a little bit of airtime.

Southern Oregon seemed to get more of the retiree crowd, back then. Of course that is a generalization, because if one is to cross over to California and follow the Klamath river, you'll find some very like minded folks.

I remember being told, back in the late 80's that the Rogue Valley was like San Jose 20 years previous. I could leave my house, get on a dirt bike and be in a field making all kinds of noise, with no worries. We used to shoot in our back yard. That's all been annexed by the city now and filled with sub-divisions.

I lived and worked on the central coast (SLO County) years ago, and also over out of Visailia, and I know that there are a LOT of people down there who are trapped, but think very much like me. I feel for them.

So, no hard feelings for my horrible generalization. And although I'm stuck in Portland at the moment, I will be back down there soon.

Just think - they make it prescription only and you can't lie about it so they can up your medical insurance rates...

They made a change in my health insurance plan this year, that if you are a smoker you have to say so.
If you're not, you're rates remain the same as they say in the plan.
If you are, you must either enroll in one of the mandated smoking cessation programs, or you must pay $50 more per month.
If you are a nonsmoker, or have completed one of the smoking cessation programs, and you ever have even just one puff of a cigarette or any contact in your body with tobacco, you are to report that to them so they can adjust your rate accordingly.
If it is found out that you did, and did not report it, you are dropped from the insurance with no possibility to be insured through that provider again, or have the option to switch to another provider option from the employer.
This rule does not apply to any of your dependents covered in your plan, except the fact that they will also lose their insurance if you are found to violate the rule.
From that part you are forced to go on whatever option of Obamacare comes up in your area in the next few years.

Kinda messed up IMO. It's not about healthcare costs for smokers like they say it is. If it was, it would apply to your spouse and dependents as well. It is about controlling you.
