Weird coloring inside the slide of my 1911?

After a couple of range sessions, took apart the 1911 to thoroughly clean it and was surprised to see it so vibrantly colored. Looks like the result of heat treating, but every other pistol I own has the treating covered with bluing. Anyone else see anything like this before?

People will pay all kinds of tacticool money for that. Looks sweet. If it bothers you just get another barrrel and stick that one on the shelf for all to see and make up a good story to go with it.

Is that Remington sporting their PVD DLC finish?
Just a guess is that the coating is only applied to the outer surfaces of the slide and the inner surfaces are not coated and are showing the coloring left from heat treatment.

I was informed on another forum that it indicated that cutting oil was not completely removed from the surface before heat treat and is no big deal. Seems plausible... :s0153:
