Wanting to mount a tactical flashlight onto an AR. I have an adjustable mount that will accommodate a variety of sizes. I've liked the Surefire G2's I've played with, so I'm thinking about either getting a G2 or something like it.

Price range is in the g2 range $30-$40

What do you recommend.

I have a G2 LED mounted one one of my AR's with a Daniel Defense light mount that I really like. Don't know if you are in the Hillsboro, OR vicinity, but if you are you'd be welcome to swing by and check it out to see if it is what you want.

I have a couple of SureFire G2's as well as an E2D and an M96. Pro is it is really affordable for an 80 lumen light. Con is that if I were going to buy another light I would want one that I could turn full on just by mashing down the button like with my E2D or M96 rather than having to twist the tail cap to turn it full on.

I have several G2's. I have some of the $$$ M96 lights too. A couple months back I got a Streamlight Polytac HP at about $40 blows the all away in light output (from user standpoint not numbers) and battery life. Nice thing is you can pick them up at local stores like Buy Mart.

As a huge Surefire fan the Streamlights are hard to beat. I do see Surefire has some new LED's out not but have not tried them yet.

Best way to mount these lights to your gun is to buy the $10/pair 1" scope rings.

I have a G2 mounted on one of the ARs with a VTAC mount and am happy with it. For the price it's hard to beat and still carries a lifetime warranty. I wouldn't want a brighter light than that for home defense lest I blind myself from splash off the walls.

I have an M951 Surefire that I love. Great for AR's or tactical shotguns. In my opinion its Surefire or nothing. Also would consider selling two of my extra M951's. Pm me if anyone is interested.

Crap...Sorry about getting off topic. The only thing I don't recommend is anything from insight. There lens melted. Cheap product.

The great thing about Surefire is in the future if your not happy with your original purchase parts can be changed/upgraded for cheaper then buying a new system. Hope I could help.

I just got myself a G2X Pro and it rocks!! 200 lumen LED, uses CR123 and the equivalent rechargeable type batteries and is a 1" body, unlike the standard G2 which is larger and uses a different mount that 90% of the other Surefire hand held lights. This means I can and did install it in my Gear Sector 1" light ring!

Plus, at $65, it's a great value if you figure a G2 is about $30 and a good drop-in LED like a Wolf Eyes is $45, plus since it's not a drop-in, you get Surefire's outstanding warranty and customer service.

I almost over looked it as Surefire lights are usually about 50 cents to $1 per lumen but I'm super happy with my new light!

Is that the light that gives 15 lumen on the first setting and then 200 lumen if you punch it again? Where did you buy it? I am interested in one.

Try Fenix flashlights...they are literally the best kept secret on flashlights.

I use an E-20 LED on my person everyday. It's bright, it takes just two AA batteries (not those expensive CR123A lithium batteries) and the batteries last FOREVER.

Seriously....get youself a TK-20

These are metal, LED flashlights that take 2 AA batteries. I wish I would have went this route instead of buying expensive lights that take expensive batteries that are just as bright as the fenix AA LEDs.
The Fenix TK (Tank) series features a powerful, solid, durable, and waterproof design intended for rugged outdoor and military use. The new TK20 is specially designed for outdoor activities. Featuring a Neutral white LED of about 4000K colour temperature, it has achieved improved penetrating power and colour rendition. High output and careful design of the long-distance reflector, combined with a fresh body design, enable the TK20 to deliver outstanding beam throw, anti-roll features, resistance to freezing temperatures, and more. Moreover, the body with its high-grip rubber covering facilitates a secure grip under adverse weather conditions. Designed to use a pair of widely available AA batteries with highly efficient output control, the TK20 delivers very good runtime. The TK20 is the flashlight of choice for outdoor specialists.
Cree's Neutral White LED features improved penetration power and color rendition with a color temperature of about 4000K, which makes objects look defined and full of detail. With a low color temperature and long wavelength, the Neutral White LED works better than cold White LEDs to penetrate dust, rainwater, mirages, etc. It also achieves greater illumination distance. Another advantage is that the cool white LED improves the colour rendition of objects, which helps a lot for the judgment of outdoor landforms. Neutral White LED still belongs to white light; thus, there will be no change to the original color of the object. According to practice and research, although Neutral White light is not as bright as Cold White light, it possesses the best illumination effect for outdoor activities.

I'm really liking my streamlight strion LED

160 lumens, comes with rechargeable battery and charger.
First press of the button brings it on at full intensity, if you hold the button it cycles between 160, 80, and 40 lumens. A quick second tap of the button starts the strobe function.

It has an aluminum body and a glass lens. Accessories include pressure switch, light filters, even safety wand attachments.

Battery life is great also:
Run times: High – Up to 2 continuous hours; Medium – Up to 4 continuous hours; Low – Up to 7.5 continuous hours; Strobe – Up to 5.5 continuous hours.

Haha. Went to the link on your post and found the info I needed. Thanks.

Good deal. It's 200 lumens all the time. Lots of places carry Surefire but buying online like Amazon will yield the best pricing. Locally, REI carries them for $65. I do recommend getting some rechargeable batteries/sticks, though if you use it a lot.

I also agree with Fenix lights. Quality is excellent and they have tons of options. I'm hopefully going to pick up a new PD30 R4 eventually. It packs a max of 265 lumens out of a 4.5" light. Uses CR123 and 18650 sticks that will pay for themselves very quickly. I prefer lights that use AA or AAA but the lumens that CR123 batteries provide are amazing!

It would make a great little weapon light attached to the gun. I have an LD10 mounted on my 9mm AR turned to Turbo and it's light, small and 132 lumens is more than enough as a weapon light. Strobe option is nice but it's disorienting for the shooter, too.

If you are going with G2 buy Malkoff drop-in lamp. Make sure you have aluminum bezel. (you can use 6P bezel, or G2L bezel-Non KX4 head.)

If it's a weapon light, it's gotta be the most bomb proof I can get as it's gear my life will depend on.

For that scenario (on a carbine) I only depend on a SureFire 6P with Malkoff M61 insert in a VTAC mount.

PS> Why a 6P instead of the G2? Tailcap lockout. Light ADs are a bad thing!

i am what they call a flashlight whore...............I have used just about every weapons mounted light you can think of and so far one of my favorites has been the fenix tk11 from fortmoe arms.........it uses an r5 led which is good for 285 lumens in turbo mode on 2 cr123......it throws a beam out past 200 meters...........has a 14 hour max run time when not in turbo mode..............and is waterproof to ipx-8 standard all for less than 70 bucks you will not find a better light at the price point..........there are also rechargeable lithium ion batteries available for cheap........
