As soon as this week, the Washington House could hear and vote on HB 1122 and HB 1483. HB 1122 would force individuals to lock up all firearms, which would render them useless in a self-defense situation. HB 1483 would allow for the destruction of all firearms confiscated by or forfeited to the Washington State Patrol. Please contact your State Representatives and urge them to oppose both of these bills.
The Substitute for House Bill 1122 would require Washington gun owners to lock up all of their firearms or potentially face reckless endangerment charges. Under this bill, the penalty for a reckless endangerment charge involving a gun storage violation would be a Class C Felony. HB 1483 would allow for the destruction of all firearms confiscated by or forfeited to the Washington State Patrol, instead of them being sold by law-enforcement to generate revenue.
