10/4, just wanted to clarify the issue. I'm no surgeon but have taken college and professional first aid courses and have a nice piece of rubber hose in all my med kits. It's worth a try to save a life. The artery may just be nicked, too

I was taught that if you know help is on its way apply pressure by standing on the wound. We got to practice on pigs in teams of 3, to try to clamp it with a hemostat and failed miserably.
 
Yeah there were several mistakes here.
1. Shooting a "warning" shot. Most likely he shot at him and lied to say it was a warning.
2. Leaving the scene of the incident, and not calling the LEOs immediately. The guy who calls first is usually looked at as the victim.
3. Leaving a witness. I'm not saying killing a person would be a good thing, but if he did have a gun, it would be there next to his body. And a body can't sue you, or lie about their side of the story.
