I will be driving through next week. Would like to pick up a handgun I found on here. Would like to do the purchase and transfer in Oregon. But if I can't the alternative would be to ship it to an ffl here for transfer. Not sure if the added expense would be worth it.

If you are buying from someone in the Portland metro area, just have them meet you on the Washington (Vancouver) side of the border.

It's in Salem
Unless the seller is willing to drive to Vancouver, your best option is to have it shipped to your local FFL.

One option that might help is to meet the seller in Salem so you can inspect the firearm and pay for it in person, and then arrange for shipping. Sometimes it's easier and cheaper to have an FFL ship it for you, because if it is shipped by the seller, it will need to ship Overnight rather than Ground, even though both options should arrive the next day.

I am thinking about selling a handgun to a WA resident.
May I take the handgun to WA, meet the buyer at an FFL there
and make the transfer in the same way that I would do in OR?
I am told that this has been done many times before and that it works,
but is it 100% legal?
Also, it sounds too good to be true :).
I suspect that this has been discussed many times before but I could not find
the relevant thread by searching.

In regards to OR/WA handgun transfers.....

The transfer HAS to be done in the state where the BUYER resides.

Consider if you shipped it to an FFL in Washington from Oregon. It’s the exact same thing as taking it there yourself to have an FFL transfer it to the Washington resident.

Remember, not long ago, when you could meet in the parking lot of anywhere and do a FTF for a handgun and it was perfectly fine and no tyrannical law was broken?

Just reminiscing.... good luck, OP.
I sure do. But the law is the law.

Questions answered. Thread closed.
