You can buy out of state or online but that requires an FFL or two be involved.

Anything that would fall into the "Long Gun" category you do not need a CPL for. That would include hunting rifles, shotguns, AR's, AK's etc. You walk out with it the same day.

A CPL does not guarantee you can take home a pistol the same day you buy it. You are also not guaranteed to take home a long gun the day you buy it. You may be the subject of a random check by NCIS that can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. However without a concealed pistol license you will under go an up to five day waiting period while your local law enforcement does a background check on you. Long guns such as rifles and pistols do not require a concealed pistol license as stated above. The NCIS check is also run on long guns and it too can be delayed for an unspecified period. The NCIS is a federal check and the Concealed Carry License or paper work if you do not have a license is a state requirement. Purchase of a pistol requires passing both in some manner and a long gun requires passing only the federal portion.
