Is it legal to put a vertical front grip on an AR pistol?
That is extremely interesting. I think I just found my next AR build. I can build one for half what they are asking for those ones.Yes, if the receiver was transferred as "other" and is over 26" long you can put a VFG on an AR pistol. This is a new ruling. It is no longer a "pistol" but a "firearm" when you install the VFG.

There is already a manufacturer selling them. They are also legal in CA.

Just an FYI, ATF letters are not considered "the law", just their interpretations of the law. As such they are not solid evidence in a court defense (ie, it is still possible to be found guilty for something an ATF letter says is fine). Although this is highly unlikely, I just wanted to point out to not put 100% faith in government bureaucracy.

DO YOU HAVE RECORD OF THAT HAPPENING. USUALLY IN SUCH A CASE A WRITTEN JUDGEMENT BY THE RULING BODY WOULD BE DEFENSE AGAINST CRIMINAL ACTION.
(Sorry about the caps)
Atkins Accelerator.
The current controversy The SSAR15 Slide Fire Solution Bump Fire stock and their infamous ATF letter. 2-3 years ago people thought ATF would ban this for sure, still sold today.

I find it interesting that the defense of the "VFG + Pistol = AOW" formula revolves around the "designed to be fired with both hands and is thus does not meet the definition of a pistol".
Since the AFG is a Forward Grip, this would also fall under that same reasoning.
But then, it's the ATF. They don't have actual standards or clear definitions, but "interpretations" that change.
I don't see what the big deal would be .. lol wouldn't the ATF want a more stable safe accurate firing weapon?
