Back in the early/mid 70's during the crazy CB days, I ran two 102INCH steel whips on my pickup. The Midland radio performed double duty as a base station late at nite. The D104 mic overmodulated but nobody care except the near by truckers. LOL
Had a blast with that ole Midland. You cant go wrong with one.
Just my 2cents..:D
Never ran a cb before but I've had some Midland GXT1000's for years that have crazy good range even in the woods and mountains and are still working just fine. This Midland CB I just got is pretty spot on and the antenna isn't tuned yet! Midland seems to be one of those brand names that still produces quality. Got four radio checks today at different times and all were loud and clear. Now I've just got to put these external speakers in and possibly relocate the antenna and all set to go. Heading out to West Virginia soon so wanna be prepared.

My first CB was a Radio Shack cheapie but performed so so... then came the 40 channel that I wasnt impressed with. A Uniden for a while then the Midland. That one lasted until I tired of all the B.S. and vulgar language and sold it to a friend...

Was comms and radio operator while I was in the Marines. Just getting back into comms because I understand the importance of it, especially with how things are going in the world now. Mainly getting the CB for emergency comms in case other main ones go down en route to WV or any time for that matter. I don't mind the B.S. and vulgarities personally.

Rigged some used Roadpro RPSP-15 external speakers to fit in my Blazer's dash and connected them with a 3.5mm jack splitter at the CB. Could've got the correct sized speakers and just wired them but this was cost effective and they work. The sound is great how it reflects off the windshield.

Showing the driver side but did the same on the passenger side.

Made another bracket and installed it to the rear and moved the antenna. This looks 100 times better.

Tuned the antenna and everything is running smooth. Just waiting for the antenna spring and the PA speaker and that'll be that. Now just have to put the mic somewhere that's not going to be annoying.

Put a spring on. It's a "Marketty SS-3H" I got from Amazon. I only got it because it's black. Otherwise would've just got the Firestik one but seems to be okay. Except when I tested the bending ability the antenna stayed bent slightly to whatever angle I bent it to. dielectric grease around the fittings and SWR re-tuned and good to go.

A lot of conversations on channel 17. Not sure of the range I was getting since none of the fellers would relay their general location to me, but I'm around Division and I205.

Also put a big PA speaker in. I'm having too much fun XD

He stands at 8' approximately now from top of antenna to the ground. Not such an intrusive height but I'm not planning on parking in a standard garage anytime soon, and the new place in WV I'm moving to has a barn so no big deal.

Haven't seen anyone do this, and probably not necessary, but I wanted my connectors to be better protected from the elements and I couldn't for the life of me find any sort of weatherproofing or "boots" for these things aside from painting them or continually keeping up on them.

This morning while on patrol and having my coffee I had this stupid idea of putting ball joint replacement boots on because I had an "Energy Suspension" brand kit lying around and figured why the hell not. It's as if it was meant to be. Also put a cut of heat-shrink on the base of the antenna to help snug up the boot a little more. This made my day. Haha.

Again probably not necessary but I like the way it looks; and it serves a purpose instead of just being for looks. I ain't one for having something on my vehicles or firearms or anything if it doesn't have a function. I'm already cool so don't need to look it. That's a self-proclaimed coolness however.

Also current set-up that works for me so far. Took him on the freeway for about half an hour yesterday and aside from needing to get rid of engine noise and static I was picking folks up and they were picking me up so work in progress. Ordered an noise filter and just put a bunch more ferrite beads everywhere on the AUX systems and the cb and coax itself and ordered new spark plugs and better spark plug cables with RFI/EMI shielding. That oughta do the trick.

Put in a noise filter for the CB today. Getting the shielded sparkplug cables in tomorrow. Already with the noise filter it helped a lot along with foil tape and ferrite in various places.
