I don't know, their alloy frame might not be strong enough for some people's liking. ;)
 
mines polymer and has been to hell and back twice...literally, i bought it at a pretty suspect pawn shop in a rough part of town if that says anything. good ol ruger p series.
 
Why the thumb safety that gets in the way?...
The .mil folk apparently like the thumb safety as it reduces accidental discharges when holstering, as a backup for a trigger snag on a body covered and overburdened in gear. I'm still a fan of 1911s and thumb safeties are no trouble.
