Urgent car question 2007 Impala

My mother just called from Redding California, she is on a road trip, the 2007 Impala she is driving wont release the parking brake, supposedly it's a foot parking brake and you step on it to engage it and step again to disengage it? It won't disengage. It's my great aunts car who is there also and she cannot release the brake either.

Anyone have a clue as to whats going on?

Happen once to me had to step on it really hard. All my wieght on the one foot. Good luck

Back on the road! AAA tow driver got it to disengage, unfortunately the cell phone cut out before I could ask what it took to free the E brake.
