The Numbers Are In. Another Embarrassment.

We now have the Oregon State Police numbers for firearms purchase denials for Oct. 2014. Once again, they demonstrate what a colossal sham the entire process is.

While these numbers are repeatedly used by politicians and anti-gun groups to "prove" that background checks work, they prove exactly the opposite.

Of the 19,901 background checks run by the Oregon State Police in October, 196 sales were "denied." Wow, that's 196 bad guys off the street. Maybe not.

Of the 196 desperadoes denied, a grand total of 5 were "arrested" or "taken into custody." Not a single one of the people who were denied because they were identified as felons or "otherwise prohibited" was arrested. Of those arrested we have no idea how many were actually charged with a crime.

8 people were denied for reasons of "mental health" but, as we have seen in the past, sometimes the police have no idea why these people have mental health holds.

Of those 8 the number taken into custody was...none.

Now keep in mind, the entire reason Kitzhaber/Bloomberg is trying to force background checks on private transfers is to "keep guns out of the hands of criminal and the mentally ill."

36 of the denials resulted in "Investigation Complete, No Action." So almost 20% of the denials were clearly against people who should not have been denied at all.

The State police claim that 13% of the denials were for people who were "wanted." So 26 people were "denied" a firearms transfer at that specific place and time. Of those a total of 4 were held by the cops. We don't know for how long.

10% of the denials were because the police said the gun they were trying to buy was stolen. In over 68% of those denials, no action was taken. Only one person was taken into custody as a result of a "stolen" gun. Again, we have no way of knowing if the person was ever charged with anything. So once again, we have less than 3% of all denials taking anyone off the street even if only briefly.

This is the system Kitzhaber/Bloomberg is determined to extend to every firearm you want to lend or give to a friend or family member.

The system is stacked to deny firearms to people who are law-abiding while doing virtually nothing to criminals and the mentally ill.

Look for the universal gun registration push to be used as a way to "stop" domestic abusers. This too is a shameful scam. Prohibitions on "domestic abusers" are routinely used to harass people who have received no due process while doing nothing to protect the abused.

Of all the background checks we paid the state to run, less than 1% resulted in denials. Of those denials less than 3% resulted in any kind of arrest. That's 0.025% And remember that means that more than 6 times every day one or more State Troopers were taken off the road, taken away from traffic accidents and crime fighting to waste their time investigating denials that served no purpose in almost every case.

The charade continues.

Where can I find this information and how can I print this out? I'm pretty much useless on these machines.

Oregon is under communist control because that is the way Portland and Eugene want it. They elect virtually every key figure in the political arena. They do it because the rest of Oregon does not get out and vote against the commies. Bloomberg and others want this control not because they hate guns so much, they hate it that the people have a bit of choice. They want to control people the same way as the POS POTUS is controlling people under the guise of health care.

In the initial post Sen. Prozanski states that of 90,000 background checks 190 were denied. I would like to see where he gets his information and of those 190 checks, how many were denied and how many sere simply delayed. I think those two figures are misconstrued. A delay is not a denial. Furthermore, if there were 190 checks denied, that means someone not legally allowed to own a firearm was breaking the law. Were those people arrested and tried in court? I doubt it so where does public safety come into play under this system? It doesn't. Local high school kids have prevented more shootings and dangerous acts than background checks have. The kids listen to their peers and report that they are planning and steps are taken to prevent tragedies. The whole thing about BGC's is nothing but a shell game.

When OSP releases "denials" it's really "Not Instant approved." So yes, the vast majority of those 190 were delays. I know my shop had at least 2 flat out denials. I know 1 of which the guy didn't know he couldn't own a firearm. The trooper told him the reason and the guy went home to try to figure out how to get it off his record.

There is most definitely an anti-gun legislation Tsunami coming this year. The Democrats are smart, though. They are holding their cards close to their chest, and not introducing any new legislation yet. They are no doubt hoping that gun owners are not being observant or alert.

But rest assured, a wave of new bills is coming. And you can also count on quick action being taken on them too. There will most definitely be an effort to ramrod legislation through quickly, and not allowing either delays in committees or extensive debate.

We may only have a short window of opportunity to oppose specific bills.

That is why I think that Feb 9th's rally in Salem is so important, in order to make a strong general statement up front against new gun controls first.

Background check battle to erupt in Oregon; are polls misread?

The Statesman-Journal in Salem yesterday reported that the battle over so-called "universal background checks" is about to erupt again, and backers are touting the results of a poll – paid for by the anti-gun Americans for Responsible Solutions – as support for new legislation.

If the bill should pass, does not the Oregon Constitution allow for an initiative to then be able to refer the matter to the voters in an election, before becoming law? Just as we did for licenses for illegal aliens?

Is anyone better familiar with this aspect of Oregon law??

With A viewpoint like Gottleibs, no wonder 594 passed up there. You folks need new pro 2nd fighters there that are not willing to compromise. Those comments are not from someone that is fighting for your rights.
I am afraid he will sell you out to smart guns eventually also.
You better get yourself a NO COMPROMISE pro gun lobby up there before its too late.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here's a link to the KGW web site and the show "your voice your vote" where Prozanski lays out some of his anti-gun agenda: <broken link removed>

Edit - be aware that you may be tempted to reach into your computer and slap the snot out of that lying piece of crap Prozanski. Believe me, you can easily damage your computer monitor by attempting such an act. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Where can we find an official transcript or source that shows the OSP statistics regarding 4473 denials, delays, arrests, and actual charges? Have also heard that the law requires that OSP respond in a certain amount of time to a 4473 denial. can someone also point out an official link?

Thanks

Good luck OR, now your gonna see what its like to take it anal without lube

If you want to save face better get the word out and vote., It was beyond pathetic up here

Voting at this point is not going to help us. The legislature who wants to do this is already in place, they have already been voted for. We need to make sure we get our voice heard, through letter's, calls and emails! And also by supporting OFF.

If for some reason this gets kicked to the voters (doubt it) or makes it to the next election cycle (HIGHLY doubt it) then we'll need to focus on voting.

If your one of the unlucky souls who ended up voting for one of these gun-control politicians because you didnt know (or the politician never made clear their stance before), make sure you let them know that when you write/call them. Your input can be more influential than someone who they already know wont vote for them.

Let them know your future vote for them, and money contributions, are in danger as you are having second thoughts about the next election. Votes and money are two of the three main things that motivate many politicians (3rd being public perception).

Feb 9th will do one of two things. It will wake the politicians up, or it will embolden them and that is going to depend on how many people show up for it.

If it ends up a pissant turnout we all lose before we begin.

Will the same apathy surface or will people finally wake up and actually sacrifice a little time for the 2nd and protect it??

Prozanski finally admitted the Democrat's agenda for Oregon, make it like California. California, the debt ridden, huge government, socialist, jewel of the Democratic Party and their dream for America.

National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre makes just under $1,000,000 a year.

The Executive Director earns more than LaPierre and 55 upper level employees make more than $100,000 a year according to IRS filings. So, if you think that a billionaire's $600,000 donation to influence Oregon's election is outrageous it's a drop in the bucket compared to annual executive salaries of this organization that is supposed to be an "npo". The problem is that the salaries corrupt the organization when the money and status become more important than the mission. Thus, the threat of the worst gun control legislation in the United States is almost totally ignored by the NRA but they do continue to beg us for membership and money. Why not? Their elite lifestyle depends on it. To make it even sadder, (correct me if I am wrong) it was not even the NRA that filed the first lawsuit in Washington against 594.

The way I see it the outrageous restrictions in Oregon will be passed. It will only be at the Supreme Court level that it has a chance of being reversed and that will depend on Justice Kennedy. The money better be there to litigate it through the courts. A grass roots litigation fund needs to be started. One other thing; It appears to me there may be some bias in the support the NRA gives to the eastern states vs what it gives to the western states. My advice, buy a press, lots of powder and wheel weights and save your brass.

Go to page 2 of the alerts section.

Sorry to be such a pain in the bum, but I went to page 2 of the alerts but still could not find where you got your information. I want to send this out and also prepare testimony when there are hearings at the capitol but I need to be able to show where the info came from. I have no doubt about the accuracy but it does need to be backed up by a state police agency.

Title of that specific alert is: The Numbers Are In, Another Embarrassment. It's now the second one on page 2 of the alerts section. There are statistics in the text as well as graphs. Here is the link to that alert:

I agree that being able to present and quote the official reports would be a better way to go. Especially in testimony. Perhaps Kevin himself, or the OFF staff member that obtained the data may be a good resource to tap in order to locate the source. As someone else suggested, may be able to obtain the OSP reports as part of the freedom of information act. I believe there is a fee per page when you do this. Have no idea of the time frame for them to provide the information.

I'll pursue this in a request from Kevin and let people here know what happens.
