I purchased this from the CMP in 2015. I have never fired it and the only change I have made is replace the new stock it came in from the CMP. I replaced the stock with a correct Anniston A4 stamped stock. The metal on the gun is "as received" from the CMP when I got it.
These are very uncommon and desirable in the world of M1 Garands. IHC produced the least of all government contractors of M1 Garands for the US Military. They tapped in around 327,000 total and of those only about 37,000 are identified as GAP Letter. There were approx. 22,000 produced the first range of GAP Letters and 15,000 from the second run. This one is from the first run of GAP Letters.
I believe the barrel is the original LMR barrel having the punch mark and manufacture date of 06/53. The oprod, bolt and front site are IHC, trigger assembly is SA and it was likely replaced when it was at the Arsenal in 1964 as with any other USGI small parts that may have been replaced.
Part Trade considerations: M1917 bayonet or a pre 3,300,000 serial number M1 Garand with its original barrel ( not import marked ).
Price: $1,795.00
I prefer doing transfers at Adaptive Firing Solutions, but I am open to other FFL's..
